D Thursday, February 18, 2010 News Google facing legal action over privacy on new Buzz PRIVACY campaigners plan to take legal action against Google over its new Buzz social network. The intrusive service widely seen as a challenge to Facebook has come under intense criticism since going live last week. Critics feel Google has breached the trust of consumers by automati- cally giving users a ready-made circle of friends based on the people they most frequently e-mailed. This could cause problems for businesses, jour- nalists or people having a secret af- fair, privacy experts have warned. Google launches products without any sensitivity to its customers, said Simon Davies, director of London- based Privacy International, which is set to lay a complaint with the Euro- pean Commission. The privacy message still hasnt penetrated and the company still breaches the trust of its users. Its the same story inAmerica where the US Electronic Privacy Informa- tion Centre has filed a complaint with watchdogs over Googles infiltration of Gmail address book contacts. Google said it gives users the option to disable Buzz and has more im- provements in the works based on feedback. It said user transparency and control were priorities. Prof Gerry Potter: Hard done by 29bn drug inventor got just 10,000 THE scientist behind a 29billion magic bullet to beat prostate cancer has received just 10,000 for his efforts. Prof Gerry Potter, who suffered a mental breakdown, has seen corporate wheeler-dealers take over. He invented abiraterone 20 years ago. It works by killing the enzyme which feeds tumours effectively starving the cancer to death and is effective in 80 per cent of cases. Because so much money is needed to get a drug to market, once the royalties trickle down to the inventor there is not much left, said Prof Potter, based at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. The drug is scheduled for release next year. Getitoffyourtxt:IsGoogleBuzzallits crackeduptobe?txt MAIL to 53131 Texts cost 30cent per message + standard network charges. SP.
