Commissioned by UCD Students Union, the survey found 77 per cent of Irish adults believe the State should continue to pay third-level tuition fees, with 61 per cent strongly agree- ing third-level education is very im- portant to economic recovery. Given a scoring table of one to ten, respondents put job creation, at 77 per cent, top of the list for economic recovery, followed by third-level edu- cation, at 61 per cent. Capital investment scored 45 per cent, while 32 per cent cited the bank bail-out as important to economic re- covery, according to the Red C poll. The importance of continued State- funded third-level education was most prevalent among young adults and full-time students, with 91 per cent in the 18- to 24-year age group support- ing the option. UCD Students Union president Gary Redmond said: There is no political mandate from the people of Ireland for the re-introduction of fees.
