e-metro.ie 02.02.2010 SKELETAL remains of a man found in remote bogland in the Dublin mountains may have been there for up to a year, garda revealed yesterday. Detectives have launched a criminal investigation but are awaiting a post- mortem examination to determine what caused the victims death and how old he was. Two hillwalkers found the decom- posed body close to theViewing Point on Military Road near Rathfarnham on Sunday afternoon. Detectives found several items of clothing and shoes with the remains next to a ditch at the side of a narrow road. A forensic anthropologist has been brought in to help identify the body by examining dental records and bone structure. Garda spokesman Superintendent John Gilligan said families of people missing over recent years have been contacted. We have family liaison of- ficers in place in each of the cases and the family liaison officers have been asked to go out there and make contact with the various people who at this point are in a state of anxiety as a re- sult of this discovery, he said. Relatives of 20-year-old Tallaght father of one Paul Byrne, who disap- peared in July, are understood to have visited the scene yesterday.
