The Croatia striker headed home unchallenged with 14 minutes remaining to end the visitors hopes of a point after they had earlier cancelled out Rovers opener. After Kalinic hit the post early on, Morten Gamst Pedersen put the home side ahead with a stunning left-foot strike on 20 minutes his third goal in six games. But the Latics came back and Gary Caldwell headed them level in the 58th minute. However, Pedersen hit the crossbar before his corner allowed Kalinic to head home the late winner. TIM CAHILL scored one and made another as Everton eased past Sunderland at Goodison Park. The hosts took just six minutes to go in front as Marouane Fellainis floated cross was headed in by Cahill. The Australia midfielder then turned provider, setting up Landon Donovan, who finished coolly for his first Premier League goal on 19 minutes. The Black Cats woes grew as they lost Kieran Richardson, Lee Cattermole and Nyron Nosworthy to injury. Donovan nearly made it 3-0 while Mikel Arteta made his first league appearance in a year late on. Lethal weapon Wayne crushes City uprising man united......................... 3 man city................................ 1 (united win 4-3 on aggregate) By Chris Stocks WAYNE ROONEY struck deep in injury time to upstage Carlos Tevez and send Manchester United through to next months Carling Cup final. Rooneys 21st goal of the season set up a Wembley showdown with Aston Villa on February 28 and crushed Citys hopes of reaching a major final for the first time since 1981. It came after Tevez looked to have taken this pulsating tie into extra-time with another goal to add to the double he scored in Citys 2-1 first-leg win last week at Eastlands. The former United forward struck in the 76th minute after Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick had given United a 2-0 lead on the night. But it was Sir Alex Fergusons men who had the final say in a compelling contest thanks to Rooney. After a goalless first half, United took the lead in the 52nd minute when Scholes finished emphatically from the edge of the penalty area after good work by Ryan Giggs and Nani. It was the midfielders first goal in this competition for seven years and the hosts took the aggregate lead in the 71st minute when Darren Fletcher teed up Carrick to sidefoot home. Rio Ferdinand was at the heart of Manchester Uniteds defence after appealing against his violent conduct charge following his clash with Hulls Craig Fagan last Saturday. But he was caught out 14 minutes from time when Tevez guided home Craig Bellamys cross to level the scores on aggregate. That goal came moments after Rooney skewed wide a simple chance from close range. Marc-Antoine Fortune headed Celtic in to a fifth-minute lead from a Paul Caddis corner and the home side appeared to be cruising. However, in the 26th minute, Republic of Ireland forward Anthony Stokes found room inside the Hoops box to flick a header from Derek Riordans corner past keeper Artur Boruc. Celtic regained the initiative after the break but could not find regain the advantage and, in the first minute of two added minutes, Galbraith, on for Colin Nish after the interval, fired in a dramatic breakaway winner after being set up by John Rankin. There was a hint of offside about the goal but the Hoops fans were just as angry at finding themselves ten points behind Rangers albeit with a game in hand after the Ibrox club won 2-0 at St Mirren thanks to goals from Steven Davis and Nacho Novo.
