The Ridiculant Something we found down the back of the internet AS YOU may have read recently in this very paper, the blobfish is the saddest looking creature in the sea. It is also threatened with extinction thanks to an increase in deep water fishing in Australia. This is hardly likely to cheer up the blobfish which are already contending with their reputation as one of the ugliest creatures on the planet. There is clearly a social stigma attached to being little more than a gelatinous mass that sits at the bottom of the ocean waiting for food to drift into its mouth. However, the fish, also known as Psychrolutes marcidus, is not entirely without friends. It can be found on the internet, where it has gained a cult following from people who empathise with its melancholy demeanour (and possibly with being a gelatinous mass). It has 1,300 fans on Facebook, one of whom says he is quite cute while another believes it is really laughing inside. But our favourite blobfish net moments are a series of videos exploring ones powers as a master of disguise be it as a punk rocker, a cowboy, a clown, or the devil himself.Bottom feeder: The blobfather of sole Belfast Dublin 2day Max: 9c Sunrise: 8.17am Max: 6c 2dayaroundEurope Athens Barcelona Berlin Brussels London Geneva Madrid Paris Rome 14c 11c 3c 4c 7c 2c 10c 6c 11c Min: 0c 5c6c 4c 3c 4c 4c Sunset: 17.00pm 2night Limerick Cork Galway Cavan Derry Tipperary WaterfordKerry Kilarney Donegal 8c 9c 7c 7c 7c 7c A dry, bright start with sunny spells.
