Three times in its history, the buzzing has stopped, somebody has read a list of Russian names and then the noise has started again. Video on the internet isnt it great? it gives us quick and easy access to wonderful, high-quality material such as X Factor episodes, a video of some funny kittens or all manner of wildly inappropriate nastiness. But do you sometimes wish you could go back to a simpler time before high-definition streaming, before pictures even? in that case, why not try the newly launched ASCiimeo a site which combines the best of web video with the joys of trying to construct crude pictures using nothing but ASCii text characters. its like back in the day when people saw elaborate e-mail signatures as the height of online self-expression. ASCiimeo pulls any clip you like from video-sharing website Vimeo and translates the video on the fly into a bizarrely-coloured, undulating mish-mash of letters, punctuation marks and other typographical squiggles. The effect is rather hypnotic. The idea of rendering videos in ASCii isnt new as the sites creator web developer Peter Nitsch readily admits. But its still a good way to while away your afternoon.Take your pixel: One of the musings Belfast Dublin 2day Max: 10c Sunrise: 8.28am Max: 10c 2dayaroundEurope Athens Barcelona Berlin Brussels London Geneva Madrid Paris Rome 11c 14c 0c 4c 5c 4c 12c 6c 13c Min: 1c 8c10c 7c 7c 8c 8c Sunset: 16.45pm 2night Limerick Cork Galway Cavan Derry Tipperary WaterfordKerry Kilarney Donegal 9c 10c 6c 5c 6c 6c The cloud and rain will clear away northeastwards today with mainly dry weather following with sunny spells.
