Judges bow to pressure on pay cuts SOME 111 of the countrys judges will cut their pay by 750,000. The Revenue Commissioners said the majority of the judiciary some of whom earn up to 300,000 a year have paid 698,000 to match the public sector pension levy and they have also committed to pay 55,200 a month to the Revenue via standing orders and bank transfers. Salaries of the countrys 142 judges are protected by Article 35.5 of the Constitution which states the remuneration [pay] of a judge shall not be reduced during his continuance in office. Hollywood thriller will be shot on Dublins rooftops OSCAR-winning film director Steven Soderbergh will begin shooting a new film on the streets of Dublin within weeks. Scenes for the action spy thriller Knockout which was written espe- cially for Dublin will be filmed on rooftops and other locations around the city centre. Ewan McGregor, known for Trains- potting and the Star Wars prequel tril- ogy, and award-winning Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who played Bobby Sands in Hunger, both have starring roles. Hollywood stars Dennis Quaid and Michael Douglas have yet to sign off on their involvement in the movie. Shooting, which begins in February, will take place in the Docklands, Dub- lin Airport, the Shelbourne Hotel, and other city locations and in Co Wick- low, and will take three weeks.
