D Monday, January 18, 2010 News Tributes paid to stabbed soldier By Jeananne Craig TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to a gifted young foot- baller and former soldier stabbed to death after a row in an apartment block. Warren OConnor, 24, was visiting the Beeches com- plex in Donaghmede, north Dublin, when an argument over noise broke out early on Saturday. The dispute spilled outside and the two groups involved got into a pair of cars which crashed on the Hole In The Wall Road shortly after. Mr OConnor was stabbed near the scene of the crash and was later pronounced dead at Beaumont hospital. Mr OConnor served with the Defence Forces in Dublin between 2003 and 2006 and was also a keen GAA player who had competed with St Laurence OTooles club in the north of the city. He spent four years at local soccer side Coolock Town FC and was named Player Of The Year last year before moving to Premier A side Killester United. Floral tributes were laid at the scene of the stabbing as friends and team mates came to terms with their loss. Theres a feeling of numbness among the members of our club Warren was very popular, Coolock Town manager Anthony Ryan said. Joey Graydon, Killester United manager, said, He wasnt one who would go looking for trouble. A knife has been recovered and both cars involved were undergoing forensic examinations. Garda have urged anyone with information on the attack to come forward. Man dies in gang shooting A MAN has been shot dead in Dublins latest gangland-style gun attack. Father-of-one Noel Deans, 27, was gunned down in Coolock in north Dublin. The shooting, on Ferrycarrig Road in Priorswood, is the fourth gun-related death of 2010 after three men were killed last week in two separate attacks in the capital. Paddy Mooney, 58, and Brendan Molyneaux, in his mid-40s, were gunned down in a flats complex close to the city centre last Sunday. Just a day earlier the body of 29- year-old John Paul Joyce, allegedly a major drug- trafficking figure, was found shot dead in a ditch behind Dublin Airport. Gifted: Warren Bomb thrown at house GARDA were last night investigating a petrol bomb attack on a home in south Dublin. Damage was caused to the front door of the property in Windmill Park, Crumlin. Flames also caused damage to a car parked on the driveway, but no one was injured in the incident. Garda have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
