D Wednesday, January 13, 2010 News Sex-game monster jailed for 15 years THE niece of a British politician was yesterday jailed for 15 years for the murder of a man she picked up for sex in her local pub. Jessica Davies, whose uncle Quentin is a UK defence minister, repeatedly stabbed jobless graduate Olivier Mugnier, 24, to death in her Paris flat in 2007. Police believe the murder may have been inspired by the drug and alcohol-fuelled killing of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy just ten days earlier. Davies, 30, dressed in jeans and a sweater, told the French court: All that comes back to me is images, flashes and bits and pieces. Although barely able to stand because of the amount of alcohol she had been drinking, the former model initially confessed to the crime, saying: I did it. I cant tell you why, but I did it. I am a monster. She claimed all memories of the night disappeared into a black hole. Daviess lawyers claimed diminished responsibility on psychiatric grounds in an effort to get her sentence reduced. But prosecutors accused Davies, the daughter of a wealthy banker, of being a spoiled heiress who had thrown away a golden youth. Mrs Davies has described her daughter as an adolescent who grew into a woman unable to face day-to-day life.Davies: Murder trial Father faces 185 charges of rape against daughters A GALWAY man has been charged with 185 counts of raping three of his daughters over 17 years. The charges against the 48-year old, who appeared before Athenry District Court yesterday, are in addition to ten other previous charges of rape, some against a fourth daughter, and two counts of neglect and cruelty towards his son. His 45-year-old wife has already been charged with 18 charges of cruelty and neglect of her children between May 2002 and June of last year. Judge Joseph Mangan yesterday re- manded the woman in custody at Mountjoy Womens Prison to appear before Ennis District Court on January 22. Her husband was remanded in cus- tody to Castlerea Prison to appear before Harristown District Court this Friday. The man has been charged with 140 counts of rape against one daughter from 1991 to 2008 and 24 counts of rape of another daughter from 1991 to 1996. He also faces 21 charges of rape of a third daughter in a period from 1991 to 1996. The couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested on Christmas Eve. An application yesterday for bail for the man was refused by Judge Mangan after he heard objections from Inspector Sean Colleran. It took Garda Marie Hession ten minutes to list the file numbers of the 185 charges against the man, who responded to the final charge stating: I didnt do any of it. Judge Mangan had been told at a previous court sitting that all of the couples children are now in care. The woman faces charges that she assaulted, ill-treated, neglected, abandoned or otherwise treated her children in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to their health or seriously affect their well-being. Both the husband and wife deny the charges against them. By John Fallon Galway reporter Replied to final charge: I didnt do any of it Users warned of a Fakesbook scam UPDATING your status? An eye for an eyeHOLLYWOOD special effects artist Kevin Carter has an eye for detail and freaky fashion. The 36-year-old, who has just finished work on films starring Bruce Willis and Natalie Portman, has a great little sideline in bespoke spookiness. He charges about 500 for a pair of painted contact lenses which can make wearers look possessed by demons or like a visitor from another planet. I love horror films so a lot of my own designs are quite scary and creepy, said Mr Carter, from Oregon, US. When I was growing up I had a real interest in special effects and wanted to be a make-up artist but I started to work for my dads contact lens business. Im now lucky enough to combine these two specialisms and get to do cool work on big films. He spends up to two days hand- painting each lens with a fine brush. The soft contact lenses, which are 55 per cent water, have a fixed clear centre so the wearer can see through the design.
