RESULTS tENNIS: top seed Andy Roddick beat Radek Stepanek in the final of the Brisbane International. the American, who has struggled with injury since reaching last years Wimbledon final, beat the second seed 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (9-7) and admitted: I didnt expect to win my first tournament after an extended lay-off. Kim Clijsters beat fellow Belgian Justine Henin 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6) to claim the Brisbane womens title on Saturday. SOCCER: Assistant manager Ally McCoist refused to blame injuries to key players as holders Rangers almost crashed out of the Scottish Cup at Hamilton. Only Kenny Millers controversial penalty allowed the Glasgow giants to scrape a replay against Accies after losing Steven Davis and Kris Boyd in the first half of the 3-3 fourth- round draw. But McCoist said: Injuries are part and parcel of football. We couldve done without them but they had no bearing on the goals we lost. AtHLEtICS: Sprinter Usain Bolt will miss the Commonwealth Games, his manager claims. Ricky Simms believes the 100 and 200metres world and olympic champion will concentrate on the new Diamond League this year. Its looking unlikely Usain will go to the Commonwealth Games, said Simms. His priorities have to lie elsewhere. this year is all about the Diamond League and a continuation of his preparation for the 2012 olympics. sportdigest Unexpected: Roddick RoY KEANE firmly believes Ipswich can finish in the top six despite lying 20th after this draw at the Walkers Stadium. Ryan McGiverns own-goal gave Keanes men the lead after just 18 seconds but Steve Howard, pictured, held off strike partner Matty Fryatt to level for Leicester. Ipswich boss Keane said: I still think we are capable of having a good season and that would include getting into the play-offs. Vieira will make his debut for Manchester City at Eastlands against Blackburn tonight, provid- ing he recovers from the sore calf he sustained in his final appearance for Inter Milan last Wednesday. The former Arsenal skipper found it difficult to impress Inter coach Jose Mourinho this term but the World Cup-winning midfielder, now 33, insists he still has what it takes to handle life in the English top flight. I am a better player for the expe- riences I have had, said Vieira. You get better with experience and age and Ive been really lucky to play at big clubs. Ive learned and I return to the Premier League a bet- ter player. City boss Roberto Mancini has al- ready declared his faith in Vieira by stressing he expects his first signing to be a regular member of his start- ing line-up. Vieira, who won three league titles with Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, played for Mancini at Inter and add- ed: He is a winner, a really ambi- tious man. He came here because he knows he can achieve something. There are similarities between Mancini and Wenger. They both like to work on the pitch. They manage players and believe in com- munication. I regard it as a compli- ment I am the first player Mancini has brought to City. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html
