D Friday, January 8, 2010 News 11 By Joanne Ahern CLOSE to 10,000 people have offered on- line support to Finance Minister Brian Lenihan as he begins a gruelling course of chemotherapy in his battle with cancer. Confirming on Monday that he would continue in his role as Finance Minister during his treatment, Mr Lenihan said cancerous tissue had been discovered in his pancreas before Christmas. He said: My doctors have advised that I am fit to continue to fulfil my duties. If that position were to change in the course of my treatment, I would be the first to recognise it. At all times, I will act in the best inter- ests of the country and in accordance with any medical advice received. He described his illness as a growth I intend to defeat or it will defeat me. Just under 10,000 people have signed up to Facebook groups such as Politics aside, we wish Brian Lenihan well and Support for Brian Lenihan through his battle with cancer.
