The new device, called the MedCap simulator, was launched at the College of Anaesthetists in Dublin. It was designed by specialists at Cork University Hospital, where it is being used to prepare doctors for spinal anaesthesia. The simulator recreates the touch and feel of surgery and uses a mathematical formula to calculate the quality of the procedure. It will next be used to train doctors to treat nerve problems. Gary OBrien, 22, was spotted by Garda driving at speed and moving from one side of the road to the other while they were carrying out alcohol testing at a checkpoint in Rathmines in May of this year. They indicated to the driver to slow down, but when he refused they had to jump out of the vehicles path. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard the driver then swerved the car directly at a Garda patrol van but manoeuvred it out of the way before colliding with it. Garda followed OBrien, who continued to drive dangerously before colliding with a parked car. OBrien fled the scene but was arrested minutes later. OBrien, of Rathmines Avenue, pleaded guilty. He had 33 previous convictions. Indefinite jail term for abuserA BRITISH nursery worker was jailed indefinitely yesterday after she admitted sending a Facebook accomplice pictures of children she abused in her care. Mother-of-two Vanessa George and former prostitute and single mother Angela Allen were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court for a string of sexual assaults and making and distributing indecent images of children. George, who worked at Little Teds Day Care in Plymouth, was obsessed with IT salesman Colin Blanchard and all three carried out the offences after they met on Facebook, subjecting their victims to humiliating sexual abuse. They never met but recorded the abuse on their mobile phones, exchanging the pictures via e-mail. George, 39, admitted seven child sex assaults and six counts of distributing and making indecent pictures of children. Allen, 39, pleaded guilty to four child sex assaults and one count of distributing an indecent image. Blanchards sentencing was adjourned as he may face further charges. BY DAVID YOUNG Sex inquiry into toddlers death A TODDLER murdered in North- ern Ireland may have been sexually assaulted before her death, a court has heard. A district judge was told there was evidence of potential sexual injuries on the body of 15-month-old Millie Martin, as a man appeared at Omagh Magistrates Court, charged with her murder. Barry Michael McCarney, 30, is accused of inflicting fatal injuries on the youngster in her home in Glebe Park, in the nearby town of Enniskillen, last week. Millie died in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children on Fri- day. Senior detective John Caldwell told magistrate Greg McCourt that medics at Erne Hospital in Enniskil- len, where the toddler was first tak- en on Thursday night, had identified McCarney: Charged
