METRO Thursday, December 10, 2009 D METRODigest A PRISON inmate disguised a 4ft (1.2M) cannabis bush as a tomato plant for months before decorating it as a Christmas tree, it was revealed yesterday. The convicted drug dealer grew the class B pot plant at Verne Prison in Dorset, England, before staff became suspicious of the object during a routine search and sent it off for testing last week. Other inmates at the category C training jail, which holds 595 prisoners, had made two models out of matchsticks in order to hide items such as mobile phones. A VISITOR attraction in memory of the late US Senator Ted Kennedy will open at his ancestral Irish home. Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said the Government will fund a project at the Kennedy Homestead in Dunganstown, Co Wexford, from which the senators forefathers emigrated in the early 19th century. Mr Lenihan made the announcement in the Dil during his Budget speech. However Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore criticised his timing. To add insult to injury, the Minister quoted the late Senator Ted Kennedy in a Budget which cuts spending for health, education and children three areas for which Senator Kennedy fought all his life, he said. Irish Ted Kennedy memorial planned A SENIOR Aer Lingus executive, who joined the airline from rival Ryanair, is to leave the company at the end of the year. Sean Coyle, who has been employed as chief financial officer and head of short-haul operations for less than 18 months, is to resign by mutual consent to pursue other interests. Aer Lingus said he will also step down from the board. Chairman Colm Barrington praised Mr Coyles work with the airline as it continues to secure a 97million savings plan and cut more than 600 jobs. Sean has made a significant contribution to Aer Lingus since joining the airline in August 2008 particularly within the context of the transformation plan, Mr Barrington said. Ex-Ryanair exec to quit Aer Lingus TWO teenage girls were questioned by murder squad detectives yesterday over the latest suspected gangland killing in Limerick city. They were among four people including a 38-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man arrested after the shooting at Cloughdromin in the Ballysimon area. The 25-year-old victim was gunned down on Tuesday night in an attack senior Garda sources are linking to ongoing gangland feuds. It is understood he was shot a number of times before being taken to the Mid Western Hospital. The Garda confirmed two of those arrested were girls under the age of 17. The victim is believed to have been the 22nd person to die in a gun crime this year.
