This wont hurt, I promise: A miniature workman repairs a tooth in a scene created by dentist Ian Davis, who uses casts of real mouths for his display at his London surgery The Big Picture Rewriting biology? Same sex couples: Not same rights Timmy, I see the usual small- minded, homophobic straights are at it again. Trying to rewrite biology eh, the so-called point you were trying to make just screams of homophobia and discrimination and pure stupidity on your part. What the Civil Partnership Bill seeks to do is to make same sex couples and their children second- class citizens by picking and choosing the rights they can have, so that should make you very happy Timmy. The introduction of this bill would not give the hypothetical woman your wife ran off with any legal rights over your children, so you can calm down now. What you and all the other scare- mongering homophobes are forgetting about are the children already within same sex families. Those children do not have the full gamut of the rights and protections afforded to them. Would you be so bent out of shape if your wife ran away with the milkman? If this man had rights over your children, would you be this irate? Timmy you may have gay friends or possibly a gay family member. Would you advocate discrimination and second-class citizenship for them? Joan I want to congratulate Hazel Coonagh on winning the photography exhibition. I felt sad when I saw it and thats good because thats what art is it should stir emotions and make you question what is going on. However, I would like to know more about what Hazel feels it represents or what she meant. For me the reference is that this elderly man has no future. That just ruined it for me. In actual fact I believe anyone found guilty of wielding such a pretentious term outside of a sociology essay should be stripped of all rights!!! John the Revelator Angel argument: Would you believe we actually had a debate about if we could put an angel or star on the top of our Christmas tree at work as it may offend some people? Will this end up like an episode of South Park? Kiwi G Does biological mean better? Timmy cop on, just because someone is not with a person of the opposite sex doesnt mean they will be a bad parent or carer. I have seen biological parents being horrible to a child and did it occur to you that if someone has to fight for the right to be a parent they are more likely to be more caring and appreciative of the child, whereas you are an ignorant homophobe and should be ashamed of what your child might be learning from you? David In Brief My parents are both elderly (although they dont seem old to me) and I certainly would hate to think they had no future. They go out, go on holidays and they are enjoying their grandchildren and could easily have another ten to 20 years with us. Maybe Im reading into it too much, but I dont think its right to put an elderly person under the title of No future and I wonder if I am the only one that was upset by it. I know the poster says No Future and this man just happens to be standing beside it! Maria Farrell The following quote from Metro Global Photo Challenge winner Hazel Coonagh was cut out of yesterdays article because of space constraints: One thing Id hate for him to think is that the message is that I think he has no future, just because hes a little bit older, that wasnt my intention. I think the message is more the times we live in, the recession, its all of us. Editor Sendusyour txt To Edward, I would much prefer to live in a world where bills cant be paid and luxury goods cant be bought than live in Ireland which is riddled with disease high levels of heart disease and cancers; poverty when was the last time you walked through town and didnt see someone begging; and corruption see Fianna Fil. The only difference is we dont have a famine. Shinners If the Garda going on strike could lead to them being imprisoned, who is going to arrest them? GD Metro readers, why all the misery? Lets put some joy into the mornings. Anyone got any funny Christmas stories, or just something funny, please? Merry Christmas everybody.
