In fact, companies are more eager than ever to relax, let go of their worries and forget about the most rubbish year ever even if it is just for one night. Siobhn Fagan, head of marketing at the Morgan Hotel in Temple Bar and the Beacon Hotel in Sandyford, says business is booming. I think all businesses are somewhat affected by the recession, however, in terms of Christmas Parties, we actually have a lot more bookings this year than we did in 2008, she said. I think people are looking to do something smaller, with many businesses just wanting to arrange a buffet and a few drinks, and we pretty much cater from little to large bookings. Besides their great locations, firms have been flocking to both hotels thanks to the range of parties they can host, from 10 tapas to private Penthouse bookings. And despite waning job security, Ms Fagan doesnt believe workers will be holding back: I dont think parties will be any more reserved than usual, especially since many cant wait to just let their hair down after a hectic year. Parties will be smaller and more intimate with more departmental get- togethers than huge company parties. In this instance I believe it will also be less formal with smaller groups enjoying a few Christmas drinks with their closest colleagues. Besides claiming to have the finest mojitos and classiest cosmos in all of Dublin, the Morgan and Beacon also have added advantages in being hotels: You may decide to drink instead of driving home, you might not want to face the winter weather, or for whatever other reason you might want to book a room... A lot of people would book well in advance, but then there are certainly a few spontaneous bookings made on the night of the party, she said.
