RT1, 7.30pm The series looking back at stories that scandalised and shocked the nation examines one Michael Lynnthis week. From humble Mayo background to the dizzy heights of the multi-million euro foreign property market, he managed to exploit the trust that had been placed in him as a solicitor to amass huge riches in the property sector. The programme talks to some of those who have been hurt by his dishonesty and looks at why the system allowed this to happen. Modern Ireland: Shes Got The Look 3e, 9pm Following three very different people over the course of a day, this series aims to show us current trends in modern Ireland. This week, we look at the world of self-improvement and enhancement, which doesnt seem to be affected by the recession at all, as millions are spent each year on it. Model Ally Garvey is the programmes main focus. She is only 19, but feels she needs a breast enlargement operation, and the cameras are there when she wakes up with her new look. Film: March Of The Penguins TG4, 12.31am Overly sentimental it may be, but this documentary detailing the epic journey of the Emperor Penguin as it struggles to survive in the most severe and harsh environment on the planet is stunning in its scope, imagery and simple style of storytelling. Morgan Freemans narration could have been phoned in, but the penguins themselves more than make up for that with their determination to live and find a mate. 6pm 7pm 8pm 9pm 10pm 11pm :60second interview Robert Englund Actor Robert Englund, 62, played killer Freddy Krueger in eight films and 38 TV episodes of the Nightmare On Elm Street horror franchise. He also played friendly alien Willie in 1980s sci-fi show V. His autobiography, Hollywood Monster, is out now Interview by Andrew Williams A fan followed me around dressed like my character in V. I finally sat her down at an awards show and told her to knock this s*** off Did Freddy Krueger ruin your career? Had I not done Shakespeare, Pinter, Molire and things such as Godspell I played Judas in a hugely successful production, before I did Elm Street Id probably be on a psychiatrists couch saying: Freddy ruined me. But Id already done 13 movies and years of non-stop theatre. Id watched friends such as Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, attain their success, which prepared me for when it happened to me. I embraced it. It means Im still working today, getting offered movie roles I dont have to audition for. Its all because I said yes to Freddy Krueger. What was the appeal of the films? Its real simple we all have nightmares and the idea you can be in real jeopardy in them is a great gimmick. Its universal. Did you attract any crazy fans? I got stranger fans from playing Willie, the gentle alien guy in V, than from Freddy. There wasnt much sci-fi on TV at the time so we attracted a huge fanbase straight away. There was a girl who followed me around who strapped down her breasts, wore similar clothes to my character, including a bow tie, and shed permed her hair and bleached it blonde like mine. It was very strange. Shed followed me to an awards show and I finally sat her down and told her to knock this s*** off and put her energies into something else. Was there a Freddy backlash? In some places, like Canada and Japan. There was a Japanese businessman who decapitated his wife and children, cut their limbs off, boiled them on the stove and ate them and suddenly all of Japan decided they wouldnt watch horror films for a year. They sent me over there to try to rehabilitate the image of horror films because the Elm Street films had outgrossed Rambo in Japan. The guy had never seen a Freddy film, he just hated his job, flipped out and You did lots of stunts involving fires, what was the worst to do? The one in part two. It was simple, I just had to walk through a fake harbour which was on fire. We did several takes but the heat from the flames fused my make-up to my face. We didnt realise for hours until we tried to take it off. It was painful and took all night to scrub off. There was also an incident on Freddy Vs. Jason where Jason caught on fire. The wall behind him went up in flames and the back of his costume caught fire. When youre shooting indoors the flames burn the oxygen and people start behaving a little wacky... Nightmare On Elm Street has been remade, whats it going to be like to see a new actor play Freddy? I really like the actor, Jackie Earle Haley played the paedophile in the Kate Winslet film Little Children and Rorschach in Watchmen. I feel good about handing the baton to him. At least they havent just stuck a mask on some stuntman. devoured his family. Horror films got the flack for that. Which Elm Street killing was in the worst taste? In part six theres a boy with a hearing aid. I pump up the volume until his ears bleed and he dies. Thats my favourite but its also in bad taste. I also go after a guy in a wheelchair and kill an anorexic girl by stuffing her full of junk food. I wouldnt be allowed to do that these days because of political correctness. Everyones walking on eggshells. Are you still friends with Johnny Depp? We were never friends, we were just workmates on two movies (the first and sixth Elm Street films). I ran into him in a bar years ago and hed done a film that flopped in the States but was huge in Europe. I told him he should go to Europe where he was getting rave reviews. Maybe I put a subliminal thought in his head that he should move to France. 16 metrolife Monday, December 7, 2009 index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html
