The PS3s only genuinely iconic game makes the trip across to Sonys handheld device just in time for Christmas. On immediate inspection, its similar to its big brother, despite being made by a different development team. The physics-driven 2D platforming adventures of Sackboy transfer well to the PSP, although it takes some time to get used to the heros size. There are 30 all-new levels, which along with the fact that there are only two plains of depth as opposed to the originals three, shows this game is more than just a straight port. The key to LBPs success is in its level design and sharing options. On PSP things are much easier and it should make for higher quality missions. Unfortunately, the best thing about the original the multi-player hasnt made it, which is a massive disappointment. Each and every one of you owes me 100 Nazi scalps, barks Brad Pitt, Lt Colonel of a maverick US troop during World War II. But if you thought Quentin The Arctic Monkeys good- naturedly turn support act in this mockumentary about their fictional roadie (Paddy Considine). Picture Alan Partridge in jeans and youll get the flavour of Le Donk, a self-deluded bag of spite (or should that be s*ite?) with aspirations to being a manager. However, his only act to date, is (real life) Nottingham MC Scor-Zay-Zee. This chuckle- inducing collaboration between Considine and Shane Meadows It was only a matter of time before the makers of Wedding Crashers and bridesmaid movie 27 Dresses turned their attention to stag nights, or the aftermath of one, at least. Phil, Stu, and Alan (laidback, highly-strung and weird respectively) wake up the morning after the night before confronted with a trashed Las Vegas suite that has a baby in the cupboard, a tiger in the bathroom, and most pressingly, no groom. As they hunt for very-soon-to-be- married Doug to get him to his wedding, the repercussions rear their head. Surprisingly, there are more bleak moments than funny ones, and theres more conflict between the hard-partying quartet than there is chemistry. All very watchable, but not wholly memorable in the sober light of day. Extras: gag reel, musical mischief, Map Of Destruction behind the scenes featurette. Sharon Lougher The charming fun of the LEGO series of platforming games is beginning to wear thin; the humour is still there, but the lack of innovation is becoming apparent. Although online play is planned for the future on X360 and PS3, it doesnt currently support it but for the first time in a LEGO game, split-screen multi-player is an option. Other than that, the familiar comic brick-bashing of foes, puzzling and LEGO piece collection is all there. The collection element is a lot of fun, with progression through the game rewarding you with a variety of bricks you can add to your experience. Indy has some nice new moves and the addition of self- knowing humour such as phobias, which means Indy cant walk past snakes, is a great way for gameplay to be driven by the familiar fiction. You also have the ability to make your own levels, which greatly increases replay value, but is ultimately a wasted opportunity because theres no ability to share them online. metrocompetition Text ICE followed by your answer A, B or C and your name to 53133 (texts cost 60c + standard network charge) or email your answer, your name and contact details to ireland.comps@metroireland.ie For your chance to win a pair of tickets just answer the following question. STATE OF PLAY Games reviews with Steven Fox GIG Florence And The Machine Monday, December 7, 2009 metrolife 15 The Hangover Warner, 15, 23 Tarantinos latest exercise is Reservoir Dogs meets the Dirty Dozen, think again. The best bit is undoubtedly the opening. A nail- bitingly tense, dialogue-driven, cat and mouse game between Christoph Waltzs Best Supporting Oscar-worthy SS colonel and a humble French farmer whos hiding his Jewish neighbours, that reminds you why Tarantinos own Oscar was for Best Screenplay (Pulp Fiction). We then ramble around a three-hander drama between Pitt, Waltz and Mlanie Laurents cinema-loving French Jewish girl out to avenge her family for a bum-numbing 2 hours. A dazzling, if achingly self- conscious scrapbook of cinematic references dotted with stylish cartoon violence, but no work of art. Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Looking as if shes recently escaped from an Adam And The Ants video, Florence And The Machines Florence Welch is one of the stranger pop stars to have emerged this year. Feverish and dreamy, her songs feel like out of body experiences set to music an effect that is amplified by her sometimes unhinged croon and penchant for dressing in the style of a 17th century noblewoman styled by Vivienne Westwood. Not that she should be dismissed as yet another quirky songstress clinging to the coat-tails of Tori Amos and Kate Bush (to whom she is routinely compared). Beneath the eccentricity she is a songwriter with smart and often shocking things to say early single Kiss With A Fist is as provocative a rumination on the grey line between romantic passion and violence that youll find this side of a BBC kitchen sink drama. Though she enjoyed a fair amount of hype at the start of the year, nobody expected her to go down quite as well as she did on the summer festival circuit or for her debut album, Lungs, to debut at number two in the Irish charts in an historic first, 80 per cent of sales were via download and she probably would have gone to number one had Michael Jacksons death not prompted a surge of Jacko-mania.
