Kilkenny ace Henry shefflin (pictured) hit six points in the 1-16 to 1-8 win at OConnor Park while Patrick reids 28th-minute goal put real daylight between the sides. But while Ballyhale comfortably retained their Leinster title, the celebrations in front of 3,800 were decidedly muted. They will face Newtownshandrum in Februarys all-Ireland semi-final and crave a crack at three-in-a-row chasing Portumna in the final. The sides met in last seasons semi- final and Portumna humbled the Cats champions. But Ballyhale have the firepower to gain revenge and take their place as the only team with five all-Irelands. They led Tullamore 1-8 to 0-5 at half-time and closed out the game with five unanswered points in a row after the restart. Id be hoping they have loftier ambitions, said Ballyhale manager mcGarry. Theyre a good bunch of players but theyre in the same position as they were this time last year so, if they want to make progress, theyre going to have to push on again. Corks Newtownshandrum held on despite a late two goal siege to beat Ballygunner 2-11 to 2-9 in the munster decider. Newtown led by nine at half-time but two Gunner goals forced a tense finale. meanwhile, antrim champions st Galls hammered the Loup 0-16 to 0-5 to take the Ulster football title. Galways Corofin came out on top in Connacht with a 2-14 to 0-7 win over Charlestown. GOlf Tiger tournament plans still unclear after crash Injured: Woods Its a family affair as Italy beat Ireland to World Cup Brothers Francesco and edoardo Molinari saw off the challenge of Ireland and sweden to secure Italys first World Cup title in China. the pair carded a four-under-par 68 in the final-round foursomes for a total of 29 under as their rivals lost ground at Mission hills. Irelands rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, who had led throughout, carded a final-round 70 to share second place with the defending champions, swedish pair henrik stenson and robert Karlsson, who carded 69. It feels really good, said Francesco, 27. We were fortunate to hole a couple of good putts, which kept us in front of everybody. We played great golf all week and it feels amazing. McDowell agonisingly missed a birdie chance on the last by inches which would have earned a play-off. Its been a great week. Myself and Graeme really enjoyed it especially being in the hunt today was a good feeling. But we werent able to pull it off, we both played pretty averagely, said McIlroy. Woods last night accepted full re- sponsibility for the incident, which reportedly saw him reverse into a fire hydrant in his Cadillac escalade on Friday and then collide with a tree. he was found semi-conscious with his lips cut and blood in his mouth. Police said his wife elin had used a golf club to smash the cars rear window to help him out and that al- cohol was not a factor in the incident. the 14-times major winner and his wife have yet to speak to police fol- lowing the accident. the American is due to hold a press conference tomorrow ahead of the staging of the World Challenge on thursday in California, which raises money for the tiger Woods Foundation. however, it is still not certain whether or not he will attend or compete in a tournament he has won four times. We do not know if tiger is playing; we are anticipating a great week of competition, said Greg McLaughlin, thetournamentdirector and president of his foundation. Woods agent Mark steinberg, of International Management Group, also said he did not know if his client planned to play. the 33-year-old is the worlds highest-earning sportsman worth an estimated 350million and is renowned for being fiercely guarded over his private life. Although he has not won a major this year, he has triumphed in seven of 20 tournaments he has entered.
