METRO Thursday, November 26, 2009 D METRODigest LOVE is the most frequently uttered word by prisoners in the US facing imminent death. The final statements of all 446 prisoners executed in Texas since 1976 were analysed by Newsweek magazine. Love tops the list with 630 mentions. It is three times more common than sorry in a list that finds inmates protest they are also innocent. Murderer Danielle Simpson, who was given the lethal injection, said in his final words: Yeah, I want to tell my family I love yall. Tell Kate I love her too, my kids I love yall. Two arrested over Limerick murders IRISH MEPs stepped up pressure on the European Commission yesterday to explain why Brussels approved funding of more than 50million to help US computer giant Dell close its Limerick plant and move to Poland. A total of 2,840 workers and suppliers lost their jobs when it moved production with the help of Polish government subsidies approved by the European Commission. Sinn Fin MEP Bairbre De Bruin asked: Why did it approve 54.5million funding for Dell to establish a new plant in Poland? This amounts to state aid for sacking the workers in Limerick. Pervenche Beres, chairman of the EUs Employment Committee, said: The Dell case must never happen again. MEPs demand answers over Dell move THE Christian Brothers have pledged 161million in cash and land to make amends to victims of clerical child abuse. Six months after the Ryan Report, the religious congregation has promised 30million to a Government trust plus 4million for counselling services. School playing fields worth 127million will be transferred to the State. The move comes a day before the publication of a separate investigation exposing child sex abuse by Catholic priests in the Dublin Archdiocese. Abuse support groups criticised the announcement. Maeve Lewis, of One in Four, raised concerns over how the money will go to survivors, while John Kelly, of the Survivors of Child Abuse group, branded the figure small. Brothers offer 161m to abuse victims ONE of two men accused of attempting to murder a student police officer discharged his gun at undercover officers who returned fire, a court heard yesterday.
