More cuts Am I the only one who cannot believe it every time a bank, ie The Central Bank, and in [yesterdays papers] Friends First, have some advice to offer the Government about how to make their savings? This advice is coming from the very people who put us in this mess in the first place. Friends First economist Jim Power has called for all sorts of cuts or else we will be bankrupt! Sorry Jim, the last time I looked you werent on the ballot papers when we voted in the last general election. I noticed during the week that the Head of the Central Bank wants the pay freeze (for bankers) lifted at the same time! Are these people living on the same planet as the rest of us? I am sick of hearing your opinions when none of you have paid any price for what you have caused. You all should be locked up in my opinion! People in this country go to prison for not having a TV licence! Its one rule for the rich and one rule for the poor AGAIN! Absolutely sick of it now. Rachel M, Dublin Phantom bus commuter, as a Dublin Bus driver let me give you the facts. Government have cut money to Dublin Bus. Passengers are down and staff have had more than six per cent in wage cuts and other changes in work practices. Morale is at an all-time low while the company is bleeding money because of mismanagement. Every depot has three managers on huge salaries and bonuses and more than 12 chief inspectors are paid huge salaries to sit in cars watching DVDs. So forgive me as I get up again this morning at 4.30am to get you to work and my bus is not up to Dublins best-read letters page Metro Mail E-mail letters to mail@metroireland.ie with a name. Whether it be the weather, or the X Factor, we Irish always have something to moan about. If Metro Mail were to be full of sunshine and lollipop-positive tales how boring would that be to read? Zzzz to the top 3 albums of the decade! Miss Moany Ciara What do they do? Maybe I am very ignorant but can someone please enlighten me as to what the army personnel do all day except the ones on peacekeeping duties? At the drop of a hat a lot of them were deployed to aid in the flood areas. Patricia Kinsella Big save: 100 million saved due to the strike. What if the Government reduce the public sector to a four-day-week, paid them 80 per cent of what they are on, and then on their day off, to make up for the 20 per cent they are losing, they can head north and do their grocery shopping? Just an idea! Jimmy P Tap tap: Snuffles, its not as bad but does finger drumming on a desk drive anyone else mad? Paul In Brief scratch due to maintenance cuts. Sean, Ringsend driver I have been reading your articles about Dublin Bus with great interest. Let me tell you that as a half German, half Irish citizen I find myself in a struggling war! My German side wishes to complain on a daily basis. Yes, the buses are often over-crowded, too fast, occasionally going through red lights and manky. But on the other hand, they are inexpensive, covering a vast area of Dublin and sometimes the bus driver informs me personally when I have reached my stop! Not too unhappy bus passenger The decision to go on strike is not taken lightly when you are to lose a days pay. It is not a regular day off and who decides that you cant or shouldnt go up the North after youve done your picket duty. By the way, I wrote this during lunch in case youre thinking Im wasting time because, believe it or not, we are very busy. A very disgruntled civil servant Sendusyour txt Fair play to Sting for calling the X Factor televised karaoke. Its about time people see this show for what it really is a fast money-maker and a way for four millionaires to laugh at people to their faces. Locks Worker Bee, thank you for sticking up for us public sector workers and for grasping that we do contribute to the economy. And thanks to the hundreds of people who beeped in support of our strike. MK Metro, why did you tell us Katie Price dumped her lover on TV and not give us any more details about it. I feel cheated. Celebrity gossip addict No driver likes to see people waiting five minutes, never mind 40. But youre right Dublin Bus dont care. Its not about providing a service anymore, its about which route makes money. If it had its way, every bus out of its Donnybrook depot would be either a 46a or 145.
