D Monday, November 23, 2009 METRO 11 Jedward go as novelty wears thin THEY went from being the laughing stock, to the novelty act, to rank out- sider, to oh-my-God-can-they-actual- ly-win-it? But last night the unstoppable force that was Jedward finally stopped after a slightly dodgy version of Boyzone hit No Matter What. Its been a great ride for the 18-year- old twins, who came as close as you can get to winning one of the worlds most prolific talent competitions without actually being able to sing. For weeks, Simon Cowell rolled his eyes incredulously as he tried to fig- ure out how and why John and Ed- ward Grimes managed to stay in the competition with scant singing ability and unco-ordinated dance routines. But the Lucan pairs wide-eyed na- ivety, genuine gratefulness and un- quenchable enthusiasm coupled with off the wall music numbers near impossible to look away from even- tually even won over Mr Nasty. Despite once describing them as vile creatures and threatening to leave the country if they won, Cowell went on to relinquish his opportunity to kick them out when they ended up Cadbury to reject 11.4bn takeover DAIRY MILK maker Cadbury would reject a 11.45billion takeover bid from US chocolate firm Hershey, unless a much better figure is offered. Cadbury, which has already described a hostile 10.3billion offer from Oreos and Toblerone maker Kraft as derisory, is thought to be adamant it wants to stay independent unless the price is right. Hershey, which is controlled by a charitable trust in Pennsylvania, already has a business relationship with Cadbury, holding a licence to make Dairy Milk bars and Cadbury Creme Eggs in the US, and is considered a better fit to its business. But not everyone was a fan, with the pair allegedly receiving death threats. The pair are now being groomed to take on America, following endorse- ments from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and the Jonas Brothers. Simon Cowell has reportedly been in touch with his US contacts to see if there is any interest in having the Lu- can twins on their shows. Almost 1million Irish viewers had been tuning in every week to see how far the twins would go, even though Ireland is not allowed to vote through official channels.
