D Wednesday, November 18, 2009 METRO 17 Taxi tanks: Taxis line up to get their tanks filled on a viaduct in Chongqing, China, yesterday, during a regional shortage as supplies were diverted to the snowstorm-hit north Picture: Reuters The Big Picture Faith in the system Tiger raiders: Worse than rapists? Last Friday, we were urged to have faith in the justice system as the tiger kidnapping bank robbers got basically a life sentence. How can I have faith in the justice system when I see convicted rapists get the likes of six years in prison, and other lame sentences like this frequently? Not just women, but child abuse cases too. Now maybe Im wrong, but isnt beating and violently raping someone not more sick and disturbing than this case? Im not saying the tiger kidnappers should have got less of a sentence, but why are rapists and sexual abusers getting off on lenient sentences and these cases being treated differently? Amanda Thank you to the private sector worker for your view on the public sector cuts. You are spot on. As a public sector worker myself, I fully appreciate the position I am in as my entire family have been struck hard by unemployment in the recession. I am on the lowest salary scale and even I dont mind taking a cut if it means we can get this country up and running again. I agree with you that it should be done fairly. Also, I think that, like the private sector, public servants should be fired for not pulling their weight. Verbal warning, written warning, then P45 this would cut back on staff who are not useful to the service and open opportunities for people who would appreciate a job. Thank you for your view and understanding; its about time private and public service workers stuck together. Most were drunk and didnt seem to realise the Moonshadow musical segment was intended as a bonus. The artist must have been appalled I certainly was. Once again we displayed ignorance and mob rule. Shame on the boo boys and girls. Ray Q Not so McHappy: Has anyone else had an unhappy meal from the Lucan drive-through? Twice in the last week part of my order has been missing which is a total pain in the mcnuggets! Either the staff are concerned about my expanding waistline or the Hamburglar is back! Mc Cheesed off Dirty business: I could not agree more with Eoghan in yesterdays Metro. We should all be on the streets at this stage. Once again we have a situation where AIB thumb their noses at their political puppet finance minister and carry on their dirty business as usual. They continue to believe they are better than the rest of us. Its high time we took our country back. Joe ONeill In Brief To L from Dublin, I would love to be able to opt out of paying into the pension scheme, not because I cant afford it, but because it is not worth anything to me. I will have 20 years service in the health service when I retire in 17 years and my pension will be around 30 per week, which in turn will then be offset against my old-age pension should there still be one. Also, there are workers in the public service who chose not to join the pension scheme but still have to pay the pension levy. Dave, health service worker, Dublin Disgruntled commuter clean, comfortable and fast? Are you and I living on the same planet or do Dublin Bus run a luxury service for northside commuters while leaving the smelly. dirty, bone- rattlers for commuters south of the Liffey. And to add insult to injury, we have to wait for this service for 40 minutes or more, only to be packed in like sardines when it finally arrives. Very disgruntled commuter Sendusyour txt Excusez moi: football is not about the look its not a beauty competition! Pat, you are just jealous that you do not fit in a team. Yvonne, D4 Larry in Drumcondra, my brothers are avid supporters of Bohemians and are Dublin and Ireland fans and go to all the games so there! Sile Totally agree, Larry, Id much rather go to see my beloved Hoops with real fans than be part of the Ole Ole brigade. George, D10 To stay dry, Maria. At least men dont hit you in the eye as they power walk home with their umbrellas. Atwood Maria, whats the point in having a girlie umbrella that will just go inside out with a gust of wind. Get yourself a big one. I for one like going to work dry! Well-endowed I want to say thanks to the staff of Superquinn in Swords and the two off-duty nurses who came to my dads aid when he collapsed while shopping with my mum last Friday. Very much appreciated. RG txt MAIL to 53131*
