Having said that, a few minutes later Id found enough colon space to tackle a decent chunky chocolate chip brownie drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice- cream. With a lively bottle of Viognier, our bill came to 90.10 excluding service which was breezy and pleasant throughout. Daragh Reddin 22 Castle Street, Dalkey Co Dublin. Theres also a few other Loose guys playing with us: Benjamin, Andre and Darrok. Mik originally wanted to be in the group so he could play lots of guitar solos. He hadnt played guitar on stage much in years, so he was a tad over-zealous at the start, but were doing a good job of reigning him in at the minute. Youre also dating Mik. Is he as hilarious off stage as he is on? No, hes a grumpy f**ker most of the time. The images of conflicts and hardship around the world are both shocking and surprising, and certainly get their point across. The section entitled Beware The Cost Of War shows photos by 14 Palestinian and Israeli photojournalists, who have taken pictures of the aftermath of conflicts on their own doorsteps, while other regions covered range from Bangladesh to Haiti. www.onepageartist.com This site aims to supply all the information that you may seek about a band or an artist on one page. Simply use the search function or check the genres of music for anyone you may be interested in and the site will detail the artists tour dates, albums, music and videos. There are also regular updates of tweets from famous pop and rock artists highlighted on the site, and lots of featured acts including Radiohead, Duran Duran (Simon Le Bon, pictured), Lil Wayne and Katy Perry. Anthony Gibson ART REVIEW Lynda Benglis New York-based contemporary artist and sculptor Lynda Benglis invites contradictions. From challenging notions of the female gaze by posing naked with a dildo, centrefold style, for an Art Forum ad in 1974, to her realisation that the idea of directing matter logically was absurd matter can and will take its own form, Bengliss work is as much defined as overshadowed by her early shock art antics. But this retrospective at IMMA exposes a less explicit cross section of her portfolio, and is all the stronger for it. Wing is an awesome, gravity- defying ooze of aluminium, while pleated aluminium and bronze sculptures Raptor, Panhand, Caelum and Pleiades seem to billow with movement despite such unyielding materials. The glitter-spattered knots are less compelling, but its her video works that havent aged well, their crude sound and production quality a major turn off ironic, given their sexual overtones. Ultimately Bengliss work with heavy metals makes a more interesting statement than the pieces which engage overtly with issues of gender. Titled simply Townes, Earles most recent offering is a respectful acoustic collection that showcases Van Zandts gift for penning disquieting folk/ country songs aching with longing and regret. Highlights include the epic and enigmatic Pancho And Lefty, about a Mexican bandit who meets with a sorry end when hes betrayed by his best pal, and Lungs with its eerie refrain wont you lend your lungs to me, mine are collapsing?. If that all sounds a little bleak, bear in mind that live Earle is renowned for barnstorming crowd-pleasers such as the now ubiquitous Galway Girl and the straight-up country rock of Copperhead Road. The bedraggled singer has always been a thorn in the side of the US establishment, never afraid to expose his countrys shortcomings; post-9/11 album Jerusalem incurred the wrath of the right wing press for its alleged anti-US sentiments, a ridiculous claim which, however, did Earles international profile no harm. Recently, though, he seem like a contented man. Hes lived through seven marriages, survived heroin addiction and has found solace in his adopted New York, a city which left such a mark he recorded the 2007 album Washington Square Serenade in its honour. It wakes you up if youre jet-lagged and usually ends with people throwing stuff around the dressing room. Dimples by John Lee Hooker: My brothers would listen to a lot of blues when I was younger and it was on in the bars around my house so this sort of stuff bled through. I love the lyric: You got dimples in your jaw. Its so random. The Fixer by Pearl Jam: Its interesting to hear Pearl Jam back on the radio. I remember queuing outside HMV in Cardiff to buy their first LP. Id never done that before and Ive never done it since. Love Is The Drug by Roxy Music: I was never really into this when I was a kid. Our keyboard player is from Manchester so he brought bands such as New Order and Roxy into the picture you know, arty stuff. Its a real feel-good song. Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones: This is probably my favourite Stones song. We did a cover version on a French TV show the other week. It was a bit off the cuff: only three of us knew it, so Im amazed we made it through.
