But not Alexandra Burke. The winner of X Factor 2008 has just had her second UK No.1 single with Bad Boys followed by a No.1 with debut album Overcome. Shes been asked by Beyonc to support her on tour and 50 Cent has approached her to appear in his video, plus theres a rumoured six-figure deal with D&G. So, has fame gone to the reality show winners head? Not at all. This humble 21-year-old is still finding it hard to adjust to her new lifestyle. Its crazy, laughs Burke. Little old me was up against huge stars like Whitney, Robbie Williams and Michael Bubl and Im the one who went to No.1. Nothings sunk in yet. Its been nearly a year since I won The X Factor and even thats not sunk in yet. Since winning the show and storming the charts with her first single Hallelujah, Burke has been hard at work in the studio. Her mother, former Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell, is credited for her talent, despite her grandads claim it came from him. Hell be turning in his grave now Ive said that, Trying to take the glory, she jokes. Its not all been plain sailing for the pop sensation. Shes had to move house after youths abused her and threw stones at her car. The papers completely blew it out of proportion, though, she explains. You can either take it with a pinch of salt, or you can go down the crazy route, shave off your hair and get tattoos. Even though shes only just released her first album, Burke is already talking about working with other artists. Im in love with Lady Gagas album and I would die if she wanted to do a collaboration, she enthuses. She also admits to liking Lady Gagas style. Sometimes I think: What they hell are you doing? But when she gets it right, Im like, Im feeling what you wear. When it comes to her own style she says shes more confident now than she was last year because shes more comfortable in her own skin. She cites Kate Moss, Beyonc, Naomi Campbell and Cheryl Cole as style icons and says her own style is quite glam, sexy, sassy and fun. When it comes to Simon Cowells fashion sense, Burke thinks he is normal. What I like about him is that hes got all this money but you never see the man show off, she says. I respect that. Hat off to him that he just wears a grey T-shirt and jeans because thats what he feels comfortable in. Hes not flaunting about in Gucci and Im sure he prefers to get his tops from Primark. Burke herself cant resist a pair of Primark pyjamas and says shes a girly girl at heart. My favourite colour is pink for crying out loud, she says. B urke loves to mix and match designer, high street and vintage, and says shes a Topshop girl. I absolutely love Topshop, she says. I went in the other day and bought loads of those things called jeggings. Designers doing it for her at the moment are Pucci and Lipsy and shes got big respect and love for D&G. Since her rise to fame, Burkes splashed out on loads of Christian Louboutins but is now saving to buy a house, so perhaps shell be mixing and matching what shes already got for a while. in association with...
