Calls for X Factor boycott as Cowells vote gamble dismissed as cynical ploy By Andrei HArmswortH Pressure: simon Cowell is quizzed Vote: smiling Lucie Jones at tV studios in London as twins John and edward Grimes attend rehearsals Pictures: Wenn/Rex DANNII MINOGUE kept silent as Simon Cowell ousted her second act, but her boyfriend has branded Cowell disgraceful. Kris Smith was not happy when Cowell saved Jedward. Gutted for poor Lucie, what a disgraceful decision, the 31-year- old (pictured) raged on Twitter. Cant believe she went out, thought I was watching a singing talent show, he mused. Kris cross at Simon move Jedward drive a Pea to drink The Black eyed Peas hit the bottle after watching Jedward on the X Factor results show. Band member Apl. de.ap (pictured) told clubbers he needed a stiff drink at Londons Whisky Mist nightclub after he watched the terrible twins escape the boot after their decidedly dodgy performance of Robbie Williams Rock DJ. X FACTOR guru Simon Cowell was facing a growing public backlash yesterday as fans accused him of turning the show into The Fix Factor. Angry viewers bombarded chatrooms and websites with calls for a boycott of the show following Cowells decision not to boot out Dublin teen twins John and Ed- ward Grimes. It also emerged Cowell had earmarked Jedward for stardom long before the series began, boasting about them to Louis Walshs pop group Westlife earlier in the year. Cowell let the public vote decide whether Jedward or 18-year-old Welsh singer Lucie Jones was ousted. Many branded Cowell a hypocrite. Others said he had sealed the fate of the doomed talent show, branding it as Dead as Big Brother!. Among the internet groups created were the Protest STOP WATCHING X FAC- TOR group and Simon Cowell is a w***er for saving Jedward! Boycott the X Factor group. What a fix! Simon Cowell should be sacked from his own show! one writer, Jayne said online. Wont be watching ever again. All that rubbish attributed to Simon Cowell... well the dream is over no more X Factor ever again, added Mark Humphries. I thought he is supposed to be a judge. All he cares about is his pocket!! We should all Boycott this Pantomime!! another writ- er, Monika added. Many fans were calling for all four judges to be given the chop. Cowell was desperate to salvage his repu- tation just minutes after the vote on Sunday when live callers on ITV2s Xtra Factor show peppered him on air. Hitting back, he said: I didnt expect Lu- cie would lose. Its not my fault if people in the bottom dont get enough votes. We have to put it into perspective. Westlife singer Mark Feehily told Heat magazine how on a trip to see Cowell in America earlier this year he had shown them a clip of Jedward. Simon was using them to showcase the series before theyd even been picked. Peo- ple thought Louis was mad to put them through, but even Simon knew they had something, he said. PR guru Max Clifford has tipped the twins to be millionaires by their 20th birthday. He claims the pair could have a line of TV shows, appearances and commercials wait- ing for them, and they are the prefect candi- dates for the tweenie market. Bookmakers Paddy Power have gone one further and given odds of just 8/1 they will be worth 10million (11.2million) by the year 2015. They are just 5/1 to become the next Ant and Dec and sign a multi-million-euro deal with ITV, and 100/1 to appear on the cover of Time magazine.
