D Monday, November 9, 2009 METRO 13 Dubs the most honest drivers in the country MOTORISTS in Clare have been named and shamed as the most dishonest in the country. A survey claimed seven out of ten car own- ers in the Banner County fibbed to insurers when buying a policy. Drivers in Laois, Meath, Carlow and Cavan were also accused of not coming clean, while Dubliners were dubbed the most honest. The poll, commissioned by Setanta Insur- ance, found the biggest white lies included marital status, where a vehicle is kept and how long a driver has held a licence. Mike Matthews of Setanta Insurance said it identified potential hot-spots of fraudulent behaviour. This is not just a worry for Irish insurers, it is a worry for all of us, he said. As a result, honest motorists will be forced to pay higher premiums because of the ac- tions of dishonest fellow road users. The online poll of 2,000 motorists revealed an average one in three drivers were happy to lie to get cheaper car insurance. But fewer than seven per cent of Dubliners said they fibbed, followed by drivers in Lim- erick, Wicklow, Sligo, and Waterford. Less than 30 per cent surveyed in Clare said they would never lie.
