Pro-reform protesters, behind weeks of mass rallies starting in June after an election they claim was fixed, chanted Death to dictators. People usually chant Death to America on the anniversary. Egypt: Hillary Clinton defended the US stance toward Israeli settlement building to worried Arab allies, saying Washington does not accept the legitimacy of West Bank enclaves and wants to see building halted forever. But the US secretary of state said an Israeli offer to restrain but not halt work represents positive movement forward toward resuming Israeli- Palestinian peace negotiations. ChINA: Plans for a Disney theme park in Shanghai have been approved by authorities, a major step toward making the long- awaited project reality. Disney said the initial phase of the project would include a Magic Kingdom- style theme park with characteristics tailored to the Shanghai region. Disney has gradually expanded its presence in mainland China after opening a theme park in Hong Kong in 2005. BuRmA: US Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell met Aung San Suu Kyi (pictured) yesterday in a visit that marked the highest-ranking talks between an American and Burmas detained opposition leader in 14 years. Mr Campbells two-day trip, including talks with senior junta officials, stems from a new policy that reverses the Bush administrations isolation of Burma which the military renamed Myanmar and has ruled since 1962. pOLAND: A fugitive mugger has been caught after appearing on the Polish version of Britains Got Talent. The gunman opened fire at a military compound in Helmand province. It came after Afghan election officials cancelled a run-off vote in disputed presidential elec- tions and gave President Hamid Karzai a second term in office. British soldiers returned fire, but the at- tacker escaped. An investigation into the shooting is under way. It appears that they were targeted be- cause they were engaged in what our en- emies fear most they were mentoring and training Afghan forces, British prime minister Gordon Brown told parliament. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for this incident, so it may be that the Tal- iban have used an Afghan police member or that they have infiltrated the Afghan police. Afghan interior minister Haneef Atmar said the attack appeared to be an isolated incident. US general Stanley McChrystal, com- mander of US and Nato forces in the country, said the attack would not force a change in the training policy. We will not let this event deter our resolve to building a partnership with the Afghan National Security Forces, he said. Escalating violence in the US-led war, a sharp rise in UK casualties and concerns over corruption in the government have created a headache for Mr Brown prior to the UK general election due by June. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html
