Militants die after invading bear cave 8-hour tiger kidnapping ordeal of ex-Cats playerBy ed cArTy Targeted: Adrian ronan AN ALL-IRELAND hurler was forced to demand several million euro in cash from the bank where he works after a kidnap gang threatened his wife and three children. Tiger-kidnappers raided the home of former Kilkenny star Adrian Ronan before dawn yesterday taking his wife hostage and ordering him to the Bank of Ireland branch in the city. The plot fell apart when the gang of at least three armed and masked men became spooked and did not show up at a drop-off point. It is understood Mr Ronan took his children, all aged under ten, and drove to his Parliament Street workplace as the gang held his wife and waited for the ransom money. The kidnappers phoned orders to the retired hurler and, after he said he could get the cash, they de- manded he carry out the multi-million-euro heist. The gang raided the couples home at 6.15am and ordered Mr Ronan to the bank at opening time. Detectives in Kilkenny were alerted when the bank opened, and launched a counter-operation following agreed protocols used between bank workers and Garda in the event of a tiger-kidnap so-called because raiders stalk their prey before at- tacking. Mr Ronans wife was eventually found at about 2pm at the weather station at Granges Road on the outskirts of Kilkenny. Mr Ronan was an All-Ireland medal winner at both minor and senior level for his county. There were no injuries but Garda said the family were extremely traumatised by the eight-hour or- deal. It was the fourth similar kidnap this year. Twins want to fight for missing sister Maddie THE McCANNS four-year- old twins have started saying they want to find and fight the person who took their missing sister. Sean and Amelie were just two when Madeleine vanished in Portugal in 2007. But their parents have discussed with them the fact that their big sister is missing and they are now fiercely protective of her. Mr McCann said: They talk about her more than Kate and I, its incredible. He added: Now theyre saying, Shes been taken, when we find who took her, well fight them. Mr McCann said he told Amelie: No, we will give them to the police and then well put them in jail. Mrs McCann said looking for her daughter had become a full-time job. There cant be any more important job for me than trying to find Madeleine combined, obviously, with looking after Sean and Amelie. Thats how my days are split. Its my job. The McCanns were conducting a series of interviews to publicise a new internet viral video aimed at someone close to the person responsible for Maddies disappearance.
