DINNER FOR 2 IN THE TEA ROOM RESTAURANT AT OUR FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE JAZZ SESSION THETEAROOM Can you spot how its done? Artist seamlessly merges models bodies into his remarkable images Even better than the real thing: Can you spot the human body within this leopard picture?Curves: A model contorts herself for a piece entitled Mea IF YOU wanted to get this close to a leopard youd probably need to use an enormous telephoto lens. But Craig Tracy didnt have to go on safari in Africa to capture this stunning image, he painted it on a model. If youre struggling to see any body parts, dont worry, thats testament to how well the 42-year-old manages to merge his volunteers bodies with the back- grounds he paints. In this case, he painted the creatures eyes on the floor while the back of a fe- male model, facing the floor, forms the rest of its face. If you look closely, her bottom is actually used as the big cats nose. Mr Tracy, from New Orleans, spends up to nine hours painstakingly applying wa- ter-based paint to volunteers bodies be- fore photographing them. The former illustrator began body paint- ing in 2002 and opened a gallery in his home town in 2005. He said: It is an emerging artform that is continuing to grow, yet it is the second- oldest visual art in the world, next to drawing in the dirt. I enjoy sharing something and showing people art that is exciting. Models have travelled from Britain, Ger- many and across the US to work with Tracy. Using their shape as inspiration for ideas, he can spend two days planning a piece before starting to paint. He has also just visited China to help with the countrys first organised body- painting event. We just talked and ate and listened to music and created something beautiful, he said.
