22 METROSPORT Friday, October 30, 2009 D ArsenAl youngster Fran Merida wants to stay at the club and secure a new contract but admits he is un- sure about his future while his cur- rent deal runs down. The 19-year-old spaniard im- pressed with a fine goal as liver- pool were beaten 2-1 on Wednesday in the Carling Cup. Merida, a close friend of compa- triot and Gunners team-mate Cesc Fabregas, has attracted interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and will become a free agent at the end of the season. He said: At the moment I am talking to the club so I dont know what is going to happen. Hopefully, everything is going to be alright but we are going to sit down and talk about it. I am really happy here and things are going okay. I am really happy in london too, so we will see what happens. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident of securing the future of Merida, who has been tipped to make as big an impact as fellow former Barcelona youth-team play- er Fabregas in the Gunners first team.
