Clodagh Brett was giving evidence in her High Court action against the HSE and St Lukes General Hospital in Kilkenny for personal injuries over the mismanage- ment of her daughters birth in 2003. Keri Brett, now six, was awarded 4.5million in a separate action on Tuesday. She had been deprived of oxygen for more than 100 minutes and suffered devas- tating brain injuries. Ms Brett told the court yesterday she was having ter- rible contractions and was left in horrific pain for a long time after her labour was induced. She said she begged for pain relief but was treated unkindly by a midwife who, she said, didnt seem to know what she was doing. A C-section was eventually carried out and she and her husband were initially told the baby was a perfect- ly healthy boy, only to be later told the baby a girl was likely to die and they should call a priest. The HSE and the hospital eventually admitted liabil- ity and an apology was read to the court. Details of Ms Bretts settlement were not disclosed. Outside the court yesterday, the 34-year-old, from Fethard in Co Tipperary, said she was very happy with the outcome but was highly critical that the HSE and the hospital denied liability for so long. Its been a long battle for six years, but thankfully we have our beautiful little girl Keri at the end of it and that is one thing that can never be taken from us, Ms Brett said. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html
