Zamora headed home just before the break for Roy Hodgsons side before Kamara converted a Zamora cross on 65 minutes. Even Fulham old boy Jimmy Bullard, a second-half substitute, failed to lift the visitors as the hosts eased to victory. Brady, now one of boss Giovanni Trapattonis assistants, scored his first competitive goal when ireland beat France in a World Cup quali- fier at Lansdowne road in 1977 and also captained ireland in a thrilling 3-2 win over Les Bleus in another World Cup clash in 1981. i had a feeling. marco [Tardelli] had a feeling. i texted somebody and said i think it will be France, said Brady on hearing the draw. Theyre probably the most tal- ented group of players of any that we could have come up against. although Portugal have ronaldo and russia have arshavin, France have got an abundance of really top players so that makes the tie quite daunting. But having said that, a lot will be down to how the teams go about things. it hasnt been a straightfor- ward qualifying campaign for them, theyve had their problems. So well be dissecting all the games theyve played, the manager is very thorough with those things. The most recent meetings be- tween the nations were in the qual- ifiers for the last World Cup in Ger- many 2006. Brian Kerrs side earned an excellent 0-0 draw in Paris before losing 1-0 in dublin to a stunning Thierry Henry strike. i remember that match, said Brady, who was in dublin to pro- mote ESPNs Premier League cov- erage. John OShea had a great chance and it was a very good irish performance. Weve got to recall that, how we played as a team; we denied them space, all the things that the manager will be drilling into the players. Theres a lot of pressure on the French. They were expected to win their group and theyve got them- selves into a situation now where were going to make sure that we give them problems, and lets see if they can handle it. Theyve got very, very strong at- tacking players who are playing for the best clubs in the world. But its all about how we play as team. Weve obviously got to stop them from scoring, particularly in dub- lin, and then weve got to get the result in Paris to finish it off. SOCCER WORLD CUP PLAY-OFFS BY eDDie CLeARY RESULTS pREMiER LEAgUE Trap could seek Kerr knowledge FORmER Ireland manager Brian Kerr can expect a call from current boss Giovanni Trapattoni after yesterdays play-off draw placed France in the way of a World Cup berth. Kerr was in charge the last time Ireland played France during the qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup and is now at the helm in the Faroe Islands, who were in Frances group this time around. Raymond Domenechs side won 1-0 in Torshavn back in August while the Faroes went down 5-1 in Guingamp just ten days ago. I would speak to any colleagues if I feel I need an insight into any aspect of the French team, said Trapattoni. Having said that, I know this French side very well and have followed all of their players very closely. I think that this France side is stronger than that at the 2006 World Cup when they got to the final. The majority of the players in the squad play in the Champions League and this has given them vital experience. Their character in the past has sometimes been described as brittle, but I believe with their experience at playing at the highest level of football in Europe, they have a different character compared to before. Domenech: republic are just like england FRANCE coach Raymond Domenech admits his side are in for a real battle when they face Ireland for a place in the World Cup next month. We know what we have to do, said Domenech, who has come under fire after an often fractious qualifying campaign. The goal was always to qualify for the World Cup, whoever we faced. We know Ireland. Theyre very much like England, they all play in the Premier League. Our players know them well from having played either with or against them. There wont be any surprises. We know whats coming. Theyre a team who have not lost in qualifying. We know theyre tough, but so are we. Former Ireland defender David OLeary believed the current France line-up are not as strong as in the past but concedes Les Bleus will still be favourites. He said: They always seem to get the job done but they shouldve got out of the group they were in with the talent theyve got. But now theyve come through and salvaged second place. Fifa want them [at the World Cup] because of their star players, but I hope Ireland can produce a shock. No surprises: Domenech says he knows what to expect from ireland Fulham: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Duff (Gera 84), Murphy (Greening 60), Baird, Dempsey, Zamora, Kamara (Nevland 87). Hull: Myhill, McShane, Sonko, Kilbane, Dawson, Zayatte, Ghilas (Bullard 58), Marney, Geovanni, Hunt (Altidore 69), Vennegoor of Hesselink (Mendy 80).
