Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana I sampled this live at festivals in Reading and Leeds and the place erupted I thought the tent was going to collapse. I play it to remember that madness. It was a really cool moment. Fight For This Love by Cheryl Cole This one will surprise you. I surprised myself; I really like it. The look shes got and the sound are just cool. Youd never think shes from a cheesy pop group. Its commercial but with a soulful, black, urban influence. Mercedes-Benz by Sway Sway samples this old-school hip- hop track called Let Me Clear My Throat. The videos got this Mercedes- Benz filling up with the most girls ever. I cant really watch it because I was supposed to be there when he recorded it and couldnt make it. I cant see all those girls. Role Model by Eminem I think he was going through some madness when he made this. The lyrics are about hanging his penis from a tree and having sex with HIV women. Its so wrong and hilarious. Hes just a nutter. Migraine Skank by Gracious K Gracious K is Dizzee Rascals cousin. When this comes on, the whole club does the migraine dance. Its the biggest phenomenon: you put both hands on your head and shake it around. Empire State Of Mind by Jay-Z (feat Alicia Keys) This is classic Jay-Z with a big, soulful hook from Alicia Keys. Hes explaining his rise to fame, about being born in New York and how it had an impact on his life. Its really inspirational. A Macduff B Fleance The winners of yesterdays tickets to see Ash are: Alister Stone & Lisa Woods Ireland might be renowned for peat bogs but they rarely provide inspiration for photographers who have, traditionally, been more drawn to the dramatic, craggy landscape of the Irish coast than the flat, monotonous expanse of the midlands. But despite being harvested by Bord Na Mna for over three quarters of a century, peatlands still exude a primitive, eerie appeal and photographer Simon Burch captures something of their singular beauty in Under A Grey Sky. His oversize colour images detail the effects of industrialisation and in many pictures machinery tracks scar the landscape and polythene sheets protect ridges of harvested peat. The scenery, however, can be deceptively alluring; in one seemingly innocuous picture, bog cotton covers the foreground like candyfloss but its presence often indicates potentially dangerous deep marshes. Elsewhere a gnarly lump of bog oak looks almost mystical on a blanket of raised peat, the horizon all but obscured by mist. Contrasting with these images are a smattering of photographs of the people who live and work in the area; many are self-possessed children who are unlikely to have the same relationship with the bog as their forebears. Now that the peat supply has been almost depleted, cultivation is due to cease within 20 years and the land put to agricultural use. As such, Under A Grey Sky makes for a deeply elegiac but unsentimental collection that provides a captivating pictorial record of an environment in its dying days.
