Newborn baby is seafood chefs catch of the dayBY SARAH STACKA SEAFOOD chef has served up the perfect catch for a couple by delivering their newborn baby girl outside his restaurant. When a woman ran in to Ger Reidys eaterie for help, he thought there had been an accident out- side. Instead the cook found Ukrainian Oxana Murashkevych with a bun in the oven and about to give birth in the back of a car. The quick-thinking chef grabbed two tablecloths and went to the aid of the mother-to-be, whom he has known for five years. When I got back, the baby was on its way, said Mr Reidy, 51, who runs Lauras Bar & Restaurant in the Sligo town of Carney. The only thing I de- liver here is good seafood, he said. Mr Reidy cleaned the new arrival before wrap- ping her in a vest and placing her on her mothers tummy until an ambulance arrived. The bouncing baby girl, who weighed 3.5kg (7lb 12oz), is recovering in Sligo General Hospital with her proud mother after her birth on Sunday. Ms Murashkevych, 40, is already a mother-of- three and works as a waitress at another restaurant in the town. She said it all happened very quickly. The baby came just two minutes drive from home. We pulled in beside Lauras restaurant and everybody was in shock, she said. Then the baby came. Mr Reidy said the father, Stan, 42, was also in a panic during the birth. I put my arms around him and said, Dont worry, well sort this out, itll be grand, he continued. He asked me how many ba- bies I had delivered and I told him this was the first. He thought I was an expert.
