The stars you love to love... the stars you love to hate Gerard Butler donned a series of costumes as he became the first Scotsman to host American TV show Saturday Night Live. The 39-year-old dressed up as the Beast from Disneys Beauty And The Beast, Bravehearts cowardly brother Dave and King Leonidas, in honour of his most famous role in the film 300. This is the first time Ive hosted Saturday Night Live. Which means Ive done it more than any other Scotsman in history, he said. He opened the show by singing Music Of The Night from his Phantom Of The Opera movie while assassins tried to kill him. Twins go through on an eventful X Factor S oul diva Whitney Houston suffered a wardrobe malfunction during an appearance on The X Factor last night. In her first UK TV appearance in 12 years, a strap at the back of her long silver dress snapped open, creating some discomfort for the multi-million selling artist, as she sang her single Million Dollar Bill over some pre-recorded vocals. The troubled superstar, who has battled drug addiction, joked: I sang myself out of my clothes. In a show that also featured a much-anticipated performance from Cheryl Cole, Dublin twins John and Edward Grimes made it through to the next round. However, judge and performer Cole was not too happy to see her protg Rikki Loney get voted off. The 21-year-old from Dennistoun, Scotland said he had enjoyed the whole experience of being on the programme. Cole said she was gutted and could not believe that the Grimes twins had managed to hang on in the series. The 26-year- old Girls Aloud beauty performed her new single, Fight For This Love, on last nights live show. She had recently come under fire for planning to pre-record her performance but backtracked and eventually sang over some pre-recorded vocals. The singer wore a military-style outfit with a red hat and jacket, and black trousers slashed down the sides. After her performance, host Dermot OLeary invited Simon Cowell to give his comments. He said: Its really going to pain me to have to say this but that was incredible. That was an incredible routine, great performance and unfortunately youre going to be number one next week. But viewers posting comments on the X Factor website were less charitable, complaining that she appeared to be miming in parts. Chelleyb said: She should have sung live on the live show. It destroys her credibility completely and the credibility of the show. The fact that the contestants also mimed (or part-mimed) the first song doesnt help. What gives her the right to criticise others if she cant do it herself? Of her performance, Cole said afterwards: I feel fantastic, Ive really enjoyed myself. Its been a bit of a blur, it took me right back to when I started on Popstars the Rivals. You may not recognise them, but the grotesque monster above and the iconic Renaissance image below are two of the most glamorous stars on TV. Perhaps the two headshots (left) may be able to help or perhaps not. One played a sexy and fiery beauty- salon boss in BBCs Cutting It, while the other is a feisty teen in Coronation Street. The woman above is Sarah Parish, 41, unrecognisable as a hideous troll for a special two-part episode of Merlin, which will be air on BBC1 this Saturday. In the story, her character masquerades as the beautiful Lady Catrina after creating a potion to change her appearance as part of a plot to rule Camelot. I dont suggest anybody who gets claustrophobic to do prosthetic work because you do feel constantly slightly suffocated, she said. Meanwhile, Corrie star Michelle Keegan aka Tina McIntyre in the popular UK soap looks as pretty as a picture in this photographic recreation of Leonardo Da Vincis Mona Lisa (below). She was transformed into the world-famous portrait to promote a travelling exhibition about the Italian Renaissance artist. It was a very long process which took a good two hours. I think most of the time was spent on my eyebrows, said Keegan, 22.
