Everything you do seems to be about dialogue. Have you always been a big talker? Im a big talker, both in spirit and in stature. Has your mouth ever got you into trouble? Yes, with the wife once or twice. Or sometimes I cross a line by telling stories that might involve other people in my life that reveal something of their life as well. I remember once Ben Affleck said: I heard you were on some stage somewhere saying I was a jackass. And I said: Yeh, that was the Connecticut gig, and suddenly Id be like, did that bug you? Hed laugh and say: No, but I think its cute this is the first moment you thought how it might affect someone else. For the new book, you got someone else to type up transcripts of your podcasts. Thats very lazy book-writing... Yes, I guess so. The previous two books that bore my name were compilations of blogs and essays, so something of a living example, because people are, like: If a chimp such as him can succeed, then obviously someone with smarts like me can too. Have you gone all Hollywood since making Clerks? I certainly went all Hollywood, in as much as I lived in the Hollywood Hills, but thats because my wife wanted to move and I had to follow her if I wanted to get laid. Ive never really gone Hollywood, though. Lifes changed in that I never worry where the next meals coming from, my bills are always paid, I live in a massive house thats mine, not my parents, but other than that I havent changed that much. On the one hand, thats good; on the other, its bad youre meant to grow as an artist, but I never claimed that I was an artist so I guess I dont have to grow. Youre pretty open about your at least I had to write them at some point. This one was just sitting around doing the podcasts and then somebody typed them up. What kind of stuff do you talk about? Me and my producer Scott Mosier basically sit down and talk about stuff like: OK, were both on the airliner that goes down and we end up on the island from Lost and its just you and I, the polar bear and all the weirdness, but no other people. How long is it before you and I start f***ing each other? We dont talk about our careers and we stay away from politics. Who cares what I think about politics, anyway? Were there to talk about how far you would go to get laid, stuff like that. Your first film, Clerks, was made for $27,575 (about 18,500). Is that a message to filmmakers and artists that money shouldnt be a hurdle? I didnt intend to go out there saying: Everybody do it for yourself. But sure, I think Im sex life. How come your wife hasnt divorced you yet? Shes so patient and tolerant. She must be a serious hardcore chubby-chaser thats the only reason I can figure out why she hasnt told me to f*** off. Hows Jason Mewes [regular co-star, whos had reported problems with heroin addiction] doing? Hes been clean now for well over five years, maybe seven. We just worked together in Zack And Miri Make A Porno. Ill always work with Mewes. Youve been working with Bruce Willis on your new film, A Couple Of Dicks. Whats Bruce like? This guys up there with Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart youre working with a goddamn legend. It can be intimidating, but also hugely satisfying. You look at the work and just think: He really knows what hes doing, man. Theres more to being Bruce Willis than well ever know. Bruce Willis is up there with Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart.
