She admits she struggled to balance the emotional fall-out from her break- up with film director Ritchie, 41, with her commitment to her US tour. It was a challenging year. I may have thrown myself off a building. I think work saved me, and Im very grateful, the 51- year-old told Rolling Stone magazine. In a frank interview, the star said her controversial moves over the years were a crucial part of who she is, including her nude photos in Playboy and Penthouse. That was the first time I was aware of saying F- you with my attitude, she said. I [wasnt] going to let public opinion dictate my own feelings about myself. I [wasnt] going to apologise for anything Ive done. The mother of four insisted she was not the wild person most people would imagine. I didnt really have my first drink until I got divorced the first time from Sean Penn when I was 30. I was kind of a geek in high school. The Material Girl, famous for constantly reinventing herself in innovative ways, also said she found Sir Paul McCartneys live shows rather boring. People have told me, You could just go out there and play guitar and sing your songs like Paul McCartney, but Id be too bored, she said. Most of the joy of the shows is the magic of creating them theatre. Im a perfectionist. I like hard work, she said. I like to sweat. Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from her musician husband. The Canadian pop-punk singer, who split from the Sum 41 frontman Deryck Jason Whibley last month after three years of marriage, cited irreconcilable differences for the break-up. Lavigne, 25, wants to block the 29-year-old from gaining spousal support, divorce papers filed in Los Angeles have revealed. Gaga, 23, performed the classic Lennon hit during a march for gay rights in Washington.
