The funeral is expected to be held in his old neighbourhood on Saturday. Chairman of North Wall residents association, Gerry Fay, said people wanted to ensure the area was seen in its best light. Local councillor Nial Ring said: The eyes of the world will be on the North Wall. The community is rallying around to ensure everything is perfect. Tragic death: Gately will be buried on Saturday in his old neighbourhood BOYZONE singer Stephen Gately smoked cannabis on the night he died, a police source claimed yesterday. A post-mortem examination re- vealed that Gately, 33, had consumed the drug. Its alleged the singers partner, An- drew Cowles, 32, told detectives that Gately smoked cannabis on the night of the tragedy. The source said: The autopsy re- vealed Stephen had taken cannabis, and his husband and another man present on the night he died have con- firmed this in interviews. They have said Stephen did not take any other drugs, but the toxicol- ogy tests are being carried out to con- firm this. In Spain it is not illegal to smoke cannabis in a private home. The source added: Although we know Stephen smoked canna- bis on the night he died, that was not the cause of his death. He died from natural causes. The post-mortem examination ruled the Irish singer died of nat- ural causes as a result of a pulmo- nary oedema, which is a build-up of fluid on the lungs. The under- lying cause of the oedema was not revealed. Tissue samples tak- en from Stephens body have now been sent to a laboratory in Barcelona for further analysis. Gately was found dead at the week- end at the holiday home he owns with his husband near Port Andratx, on the island of Majorca. The couple had been partying in a gay nightclub with Bulgarian Georgi Dochev, 25, the night before the trag- edy. Gatelys family have ruled out drink and drugs as a factor in his death. Family lawyer Gerald Kean said the claims about Gately taking cannabis were ludicrous. Speaking about Boyzone band members Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Gra- ham flying out to Majorca upon news of Gatelys death, Mr Kean said: They felt this burning need to be with Stephen. Louis Walsh will miss this weeks The X Factor to attend Gatelys fu- neral on Saturday. Walsh said yesterday that he had met Boyzone last week to discuss the tracks for the bands comeback al- bum. He said Gately looked healthier than ever. The remaining band members will return to Majorca tomorrow to bring Gatelys body back to Dublin. The Gately family will hold a pri- vate family Mass tomorrow night fol- lowed by a funeral service at St Lau- rence OToole Church at midday on Saturday. A further memorial service will be held at a later date in London, where Gately and his partner shared their home. Mr Kean said the Gately family and Mr Cowles wanted to set the record straight. Andy wanted to clarify that Georgi Dochev was a friend, he was staying in the house and he was in the spare room, he said.
