CHANNEL 4 is to give a platform to people with controversial views on race and intelligence in a new series of programmes. The broadcaster said its Race: Sciences Last Taboo season, which begins on October 26, will challenge such opinions. Channel 4s head of diversity Oona King said: Sweeping racist views under the carpet will not make them go away. channel 4 season to air racist views 58% want to see Labours Gilmore as the TaoiseachBY ROSS McDONAGH Gilmore: In front car splasher in hot water A MOTORIST who drenched children at a bus stop by driving through a puddle could face prosecution. Kerry Callards driving came to the attention of officers in Devon, UK, after a 30-second film of the incident was posted on YouTube. The footage from inside the car captures the drive through the puddle. A male voice is heard saying: Here we go, ready to drench the kids and later, That was brilliant. Awesome. Although the extract has been removed from YouTube, the AA said soaking pedestrians was both anti-social and could be dangerous. FIVE times more people would rather see Eamon Gilmore than Brian Cowen as Taoiseach. The Labour leader is also twice as pop- ular as Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny. A radio survey found 58 per cent of lis- teners want to see Mr Gilmore lead the Government, compared to 30 per cent who want Mr Kenny at the helm. Just 12 per cent are happy to have Mr Cowen re- tain his position as Taoiseach. Despite the lack of confidence in the Government, the public are not uniting behind the Opposition: only three per cent of respondents believe Fine Gael have performed very well in the past month, 15 per cent said the had done well; 37 per cent said they had been fair, and 45 per cent said the partys performance was poor. However, Fine Gael have the most reli- able finance spokesperson of all the par- ties, according to the survey by News- talk. More than two-thirds of listeners are satisfied with Richard Bruton, followed by Labours Joan Burton with 55 per cent. Overall, confidence in the political process has been badly damaged by the political expenses controversy. Some 92 per cent of respondents do not feel that TDs are providing value for money, and the vast majority 94 per cent say that the current expenses sys- tem for politicians is not fair, and 98 per cent want all expenses to be backed up
