Make sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid every day for a month before conception and throughout early pregnancy. Folic acid has been shown to reduce the risk of neural tube defects of the brain and spinal cord (such as spina bifida) in unborn children, and could help reduce the risk of cleft lip and palate. It is also important to stop smoking. Speak to your GP for further advice, and for more information about clefts, visit www.smiletrain.org.uk Pick one. Just one. He had offered his services to strike with an active service unit based in France. Assassination targets included the president and the interior minister, a se- curity source said. Details of the 32-year-olds plans were revealed after his arrest, which followed an 18-month surveillance operation by French authorities alongside MI5 and the CIA. They feared Hicheur, a devout Muslim, was planning a nuclear attack. The high-flying physicist, who worked on the big bang Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the top secret Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, England, was using a pseudonym as he corresponded over the internet with members of al-Qaeda in north Africa. Despite money transfers, Hicheur was still at the aspirational stage of his plan and had made no material preparations. There had also been an exchange of technical expertise, with Hicheur offer- ing his considerable scientific know- how. He had, however, ruled out any possi- bility of acting as a suicide bomber, in- sisting that a kamikaze attack would be less effective than a conventional one. METROWorld GERMANY: A student mooning at railway staff in a departing train got his trousers caught in a carriage door and ended up being dragged half naked along the platform, out of the station and on to the tracks. The 22-year-old shoved his backside against the window of a low-slung double-decker train when staff forced him off in Lauenbrueck for travelling without a ticket. PolANd: An express train being driven by a drunk driver has derailed in the south west, injuring two passengers. Police said the train was travelling from Krakow to the Baltic Sea resort of Swinoujscie when it derailed early yesterday near Wroclaw. Authorities found the trains driver hiding in a nearby forest. A breathalyser test showed he had an alcohol level far above the legal limit for operating motor vehicles. Wroclaw police said the 42- year-old man was completely drunk while in control of the train and the incident was now under police investigation. Passengers said the train had begun rocking before it came off the tracks. NoRth KoREA: The Communist state is reportedly preparing to fire a barrage of short- range missiles, in a move being seen as an attempt to boost its bargaining position ahead of expected talks on ending its nuclear weapons programme. Analysts say the missiles serve as a reminder of the Norths ability to rattle regional security, but are not enough to halt growing momentum for dialogue with the South after the reclusive state announced it was willing to head back to the negotiating table. It is understood the regime has fired five short-range missile off its east coast and has indicated plans to launch more from its west coast in the coming days. AMERicA: The heirs of the Rev Martin Luther King Jr. have reached a settlement that will keep the family of the slain civil rights leader from a jury trial. Martin Luther King III, Bernice King and Dexter King (pictured) had aired their grievances in open court for more than a year. The siblings began negotiations as the threat of a civil trial loomed that was expected to reveal personal and financial details about King Inc. Dexter Kings brother and sister sued him in July 2008, accusing him of acting improperly as head of their fathers estate. iNdiA: Communist rebels blew up communication towers, rail tracks and a village council office in the east yesterday to protest against an expected government crackdown on their activities. The rebels, who are demanding land and jobs for agricultural labourers and the poor, made the overnight attacks in Bihar and Jharkhand states, stranding trains for hours and keeping buses off roads in rebel-controlled areas. No one was injured. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (pictured) described the rebels as the countrys biggest internal security threat and said his government plans a major offensive against them.
