We are lucky that we have union support to assist us in the battle for our jobs, pay and pensions. Show me a private sector worker who wouldnt move mountains to keep their job and Ill show you a fantasist! We have already taken a cut in the form of a pension levy and yes, it is a pay cut and no, I wasnt getting a free pension before its introduction. So why should we have to take the hit again? Indeed, why should anyone, public or private, have to take more than one cut when the likes of John ODonoghue live the high life at our expense? I would be very interested in a full breakdown of ALL our politicians expenses ODonoghue is not alone in robbing the country. So, Heather, why not direct your anger at the people who deserve it rather than ordinary workers who are trying to hold on to their jobs? Or will you wait until vital services which affect you are cut before you complain to the right people? Its a sad day when ordinary workers turn on each other, and that is exactly what our Government wants dont fall for it. Maria Im now officially sick of Eamon Dunphy and RT for having him on their panel of experts. This weekend, we qualified for the play-offs for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. We have a genuine chance of making it through, yet all Dunphy can do is tear our teams performance apart in the most arrogant and abusive way. We have never been the best soccer team in the world but the lads did us proud and they made us all feel a little bit better in these hard times. I wouldnt mind being asked to contribute extra towards my pension if it was going to be a large tax-free lump-sum payout with an annual salary for life. The current private pension funds are haemorrhaging money left, right and centre. Lisa Pay scale: Heather, did you ever think to consider that those considering strike action are at the lowest end of the public sector pay scale? We have all taken a pay cut in the last year and now face more. Just because you have a problem with the selfish leaders of this country who earn a ridiculous amount of money, dont take it out on the public servants at the bottom of the ladder. Jean Perspective: Well said Heather, a good dose of perspective is whats needed. There are people in the private sector whose pension funds are now extinct through no fault of their own, and they are expected to listen to the tantrums of the public sector. Grow up the lot of ye money-grabbers! L, Dublin Fight? I think the private and public sectors should simply unite against the State! Doug In Brief Dunphy, get back in your box and be proud of what the lads have achieved! And RT should get a panel who really know the limits of our team and who can be proud of their achievements and not be constantly knocking them. Kevin It shows how out of touch Brian Lenihan is when he says its a bad day for Irish politics when a politician who ripped off the taxpayers is forced to resign. This is what the people wanted! We are sick of hearing about these excesses while we have to tighten our belts. I hope its a start of a trend to get the rot out of Irish politics, but our politicians with their brass necks will try and weather the storm as pioneered by Charlie and Bertie. Its a sad truth that people think as long as a politician filled in a pothole outside their home, had a pint with them in the local or attended their Grandfathers funeral they should be re-elected, and that it doesnt matter if they rip-off Ireland. Far from being a bad day, I hope its the new dawn of getting the rotten apples out of the barrel! Manufan62 Besides a criminal act, does anyone have any solution to my neighbours dogs constant barking? Always Tired Brian Lenihan thinks it was a bad day for Irish politics when John Bull ODonoghue resigned. It was a bad day for Irish politics when the Bull became frivolous with taxpayers money! Strider Backpacker, while I do feel for you what with the terribly tight jeans that you wear, may I just point out the limitless pleasure you provide to all red- blooded men who are simply forced to admire the tightness of said jeans.
