They said they were sure his de- mise at the age of just 33 after a night of partying on the Spanish island of Majorca was a tragic accident. Police on the Balearic isle, mean- while, were searching for a Bulgari- an who was invited back to the apart- ment the singer shared with his husband on the eve of his death. Officers said the man called Gior- gio was not a suspect but could help to piece together what happened. Gately was found dead in his pyja- mas apparently in a squatting posi- tion on a sofa at the 1million apart- ment near Port Andratx. Post-mortem tests will be carried out tomorrow in the capital Palma to determine the cause of death. Gerald Kean, spokesman for the Gately family, said: Theres no foul play involved and its not suicide. Its just a tragic accident is what weve been told [by police] and were happy that is correct information. There is nothing untoward, its not drugs, we dont believe, its not sui- cide, its not murder, its not a fight. A police source said: Mr Gately was found dead on a sofa in the liv- ing room and there were no signs of violence on his body or in the prop- erty or any evidence pointing to the death being the result of suicide or drug abuse. We do not think this Bulgarian man is involved in any way in Mr Gatelys death but his testimony could prove vital in helping us get to the bottom of whats happened. Boyzone were one of the biggest groups of the 1990s, enjoying eight Irish and six British No.1 singles. Gatelys husband, Andrew Cowles, was beside himself with grief last night, a neighbour said. Andrew is not ready to talk yet, he added. The four remaining members of Boyzone Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch flew to the Spanish island yesterday. Leading the tributes from the world of showbiz, they said: We are com- pletely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. He was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Boyzone manager Louis Walsh pulled out of the latest X Factor live finals last night. Walsh was left very shocked and exceptionally upset, his spokes- woman said. But she said the 57-year-old judge on the hit TV show would not be travelling to Majorca.
