This is precisely the focus of a six-week course in Positive Psychology and Relaxation, being run by psychologist Margaret Forde. So expect topics such as becoming more resilient, maximising existing strengths, developing an optimistic thinking style, how to create more happiness, utilising flow in work or leisure and using the law of attraction. The positive psychology movement started within academic psychology so its based on what actually works rather than mere wishful or positive thinking. Most of the people who come to my courses can recite the material from all the self-help books they have read, says Margaret, but it doesnt actually change the way they operate. The participatory nature of this course enables people to change their actual way of operating on a day-to-day basis. Add in relaxation and meditation and you have a complete stress-busting package. Positive Psychology & Relaxation takes place in Ely House, Ely Place D2 and costs 120 for the six-week programme. www.positivepsychology.ie With an excellent reputation, lecturers with industry experience, practical coursework, extensive library and central Dublin location with parking, Griffith College is your key to success. The use of PR and effective writing skills in all sectors of business reflects the power of the written word to influence potential and existing customers in this uncertain climate. This is made all the more effective with the range of online PR tools available delivering major bang-for-buck results for a fraction of the cost of traditional media. Good news for PR practitioners, you might say, but heres the rub; just when industry needs a cost-effective solution to maintain client business theres a massive shortage of professionals with online PR skills. Online Online PR involves activities geared towards influencing media, communities and audiences that exist solely on the Internet using online channels. That includes search engines, blogs, news searches, forums, discussion threads, social networks and other online communication tools. Brand reputation monitoring and management is also a focus area for online PR. Traditional PR deals with print, radio, TV, conferences and events. One difference between online and offline PR is the pitching process. For example, before pitching a print journalist, the publications editorial calendar is researched to see if there are any planned story opportunities. The subsequent pitch is specific to the upcoming story. Popular blogs can be as influential as many print publications, but pitching a blogger requires a careful approach. There is no editorial calendar for blogs so it is important to read previous posts and become very familiar with the subject matter covered. Suitability As with all marketing tactics, each business should consider the overall marketing strategy and choose the appropriate mix of tools that will support it. The mix of online PR tactics with traditional marketing and PR tactics can be very powerful. If a business has news, they should make it easy for the media to find out about that news. Tools include press releases, wire services, an online media kit, an optimised blog and a strong search engine optimisation plan. Social Networks and PR Theres a lot of interest in social networking, be it facebook or Twitter. Social networks do have some benefits that make them worth considering for PR. Social networking is cost- effective as most networks are free to join. It can help you get news or a message out very quickly to a targeted audience. The advent of Online PR has given business a powerful and cost-effective set of tools and strategies to promote and gain new clients. Ireland is experiencing a shortage of trained professionals in this area. Graduates in the PR and the communications areas are missing these core online skills which will give them the edge in business for years to come. Here again is the opportunity to drive business forward in multiple market places with new client bases for very little cost. Are you ready to take that opportunity and go for it? www.fitzwilliaminstitute.ie Toadvertise call(01)6375979 Jobs&Courses
