D Tuesday, October 6, 2009 METRO 17 By design: Model Lynn Kelly holds a graffiti platter by Ciaran Doyle of the Irish Design Shop at the launch of Design Week. Works will be showcased at the chq building in the Docklands from November 2 to 8 Picture: Maxwells The Big Picture Still sleepwalking Outrageous: ODonoghue 500k in outrageous expenses while a FF minister, 100k on luxurious travel as Ceann Comhairle, Mary ORourke on Newstalk asking that measures are put in place so that J OD can keep his job but limit his travel. FF was saying lately how bankers should be jailed for their indiscretions and not be allowed hold these positions again? Bloody hypocrites. So why are the media and the public not up in arms? More noticeably, why arent the Opposition up in arms? I know its not popular to praise Sinn Fin, but their councillors refund any compensation above the average worker pay to the party. I am appalled that this is the only glimmer of principles being practised rather than preached in Dil Eireann. It is no wonder the decades of institutional child abuse, failed public services and waste of our taxes was ignored, as long as they were feathering their own nests it was hear no evil, see no evil. People have woken up somewhat because of the recession but are still sleepwalking. Get out on the streets and get them out! Mary, Wicklow Well the Lisbon Treaty is over and the resounding result was Yes. Now lets get on with saving this countrys future. A new Government with new policies might help keep us on track but we still need to work together. We can play the blame game, the bankers, the Government, the developers, are at fault but that will not help us find a solution. We are a resourceful nation, so lets help ourselves. I would hate to think we went through a famine and a civil war just to give our future to the IMF. I asked myself the very same question when voting, how can I be sure that my vote will count when the Government are hell bent on getting the right answer. We were after all made to vote twice like bold children. Is that real democracy? Terri, Dublin Scrubber: Tweezing chin hair is nothing. A girl in my office regularly slips her shoes off and shaves the dead skin from her feet with some sort of foot scrub device. What is worse is that she keeps the device which stores all of her dead skin chippings in her desk side cabinet! Silently Disgusted, by e-mail A case: I wonder can we (the 594,606 who were not intimidated into voting Yes) now take a case against the Government for violating our constitutional right to say No the first time? L, Dublin Gravy train: The grubby scramble to become the next EU Commissioner has begun between Pat Cox and John Bruton. Well done to the Yes voters keeping the gravy flowing. Jo, by e-mail In Brief Stephen, the only moron is you mate. Im a taxi driver 15 years and conditions have never been so bad to make a living. Yes, look at the folk queuing at M&S for a part-time job for 8 an hour. The difference? Theyre guaranteed their 8 after they put in an hours work! Yesterday [Sunday] I worked 20 hours and after the first five I had only made 10, not even enough to cover my petrol, let alone meet mortgage payments. Went to bed at six this morning, up now at eight. Heres to another 20- hour-day. Gerard, Dublin Is Shamrock Rovers good or bad for Tallaght? Not good for me as a Tallaght resident, as last Friday night I was held captive in my apartment on Whitestown Way, as scores of teenagers and riot police ran around the concourse of the new Tallaght stadium. While the sports side of the arrangement is great for the community they really need their fans to have a bit more respect for the local area. Louise, Tallaght Sendusyour txt Stephen, taxi drivers have the right to protest and I support them. You dont see them holding the sick, the elderly and students to ransom, the way teachers and nurses do. And they are not all simpletons, though your post suggests you might be. Louise, Dublin Patricia, would you and your ilk from the No to Lisbon campaign get real. Our hospital corridors are lined with people on trollies and our kids are being taught in rat-infested portable buildings. It cant get any worse. Bring on a federal Europe to sort out this kip. The Irish are not fit to run themselves. S Richardson, Dublin I hope you Patricia, and the other Nos admit you were wrong when we arent drafted into a European army to start WW3. Steve, Earth, Europe, Ireland What the hell?! The Anti- Aaron and schoolboys gang? If were tired well use the floor. Get a life or get a car!
