Lorenzo, who posted his first win at Estoril last year, is now 18 points adrift of Italian world champion Rossi with three races remaining. Rossi finished fourth despite also having started from the front row. The Spaniard started from pole and dominated the race, finishing 6.3seconds ahead of Australias Casey Stoner. The title race is very exciting now, but it is still difficult, Lorenzo said. This was almost a perfect race as everything went very well. rALLyinG: world champion sebastien Loeb kept his hopes of a sixth consecutive title alive with victory in the rally of spain. the Frenchman (pictured) finished ahead of Citroen team mate dani sordo, with Fords championship leader mikko hirvonen third. Loebs sixth win of the season cut hirvonens lead in the standings to just one point with one rally left in britain later this month. im looking forward to it, the Finn said of the series finale. im waiting for that fight its going to be a fantastic weekend. Ferraris Raikkonen snatched the 2007 title against the odds after winning the last two races of the season to overturn a 17-point deficit on McLarens Lewis Hamilton. Vettels commanding victory left the Red Bull driver 16 points adrift of Button with two races remaining. As Ive said many times already, I will fight until the end, until the last breath, said the 22-year-old. I think our task from now on is pretty straightforward we have to push ourselves to the maximum and try to win, get as many points as we can and everything else is not in our hands. Thinking two years back, Kimi had quite a big gap [to make up] with two races to go. Everyone said to Lewis, it will not be a problem. But sometimes things dont work your way. Anything is possible. JENSON BUTTON was a relieved man after his damage limitation exercise at the Japanese Grand Prix saw the Brawn GP driver moved a step closer to his first world title. Having started tenth, Button finished eighth at Suzuka to salvage what could be a crucial point while team-mate and chief challenger Rubens Barrichello could only muster two points for seventh to lie 14 points behind. Losing one point [to Rubens] isnt so bad. Its seven points per race now instead of five points per race that he needs to beat me by. Its not a bad position. Sea The Stars secured racing immortality with victory in the Prix de larc de Triomphe at Longchamp yesterday. The John Oxx-trained colt carved his name into the annals of Turf history with a sixth con- secutive Group One triumph, becoming the first horse to win the 2,000 Guineas, epsom Der- by and the arc. Brilliantly ridden by the vet- eran Mick Kinane, the three- year-old finished ahead of Ki- erenFallononYoumzainsecond in the arc for a third consecu- tive year while Frankie Det- toris charge Cavalryman took third. The result had looked any- thing but certain as the aidan OBrien-trained Set Sail and Grand Ducal set a generous pace from the off. However, de- spite losing ground early on, the Cape Cross colt raced clear in- side the final 200 yards to easily repel the challenge of the game Youmzain. Oxx, who enjoyed arc suc- cess with Sinndar in 2000, said: [My heart] is still beating fairly slow, I think. Its wonderful that its over - its just a great relief. Its wonderful that hes come through it. He was in a nice po- sition and he just had to step up the gears a bit to get out. Mick would not panic be- cause this horse has the gears. Thats what any jockey will tell you, if the horse has the speed and the gears he will get himself out of trouble. The win was a third arc tri- umph for Kinane, following victories on Carroll House in 1989 and Montjeu in 1999. I ended up in a position I may- be didnt want to, but I didnt want to risk firing him up, said the 50-year-old jockey. I knew I would need a bit of luck in the straight, but I knew I had the pace to go anywhere I wanted. Hes a phenomenal horse.
