Drummer to visit death-row inmate THE drummer from English band Keane will travel to the US to visit a death row prisoner, jailed in what campaigners believe to be a miscarriage of justice. Richard Hughes, 34, will visit Troy Davis, 40, who was jailed for killing a police officer in 1989. Authorities failed to produce a murder weapon and seven of the nine witnesses against him later recanted or changed their initial testimonies. Hughes said: I am totally against the death penalty and the case of Troy Davis is a terrifying illustration of the reasons why. Richard Hughes: Against death penalty a third of 12- to 15-year-olds said they chose adult-sized fried foods instead. Which? said a lack of nutritional in- formation at the branches meant they could be scoffing unhealthy food in ignorance. So far, only one branch of Burger King has taken part in a pilot to dis- play nutritional data. The magazine also said that film and toy promotions encouraged chil- dren to come back. Four in ten children aged eight to 11 said McDonalds was their favourite fast food chain because of the toys and Happy Meals. Which? Editor Martyn Hocking said: Its really positive that fast food chains have made their childrens meals healthier and added options like fruit and veg to the menu, but all too often kids go for options that are high in calories, fat, sugar and salt, particularly when they visit with their friends. Wed like to see all fast food res- taurants providing nutritional infor- mation at the counter so that parents and older children know what theyre eating, she added. Doves fight Dylan for album of year BOB Dylan, Doves, The Horrors and Madness are among 25 acts battling it out in the hunt for this years best album. The Uncut Music Award is an international equivalent of the Mercury Prize aiming to find the most inspirational release of the past 12 months with judges including Billy Bragg and Mark Radcliffe. Nominations for the prize are chosen regardless of nationality, age and sales figures. Bob Dylan: In the running for an award Jaycee gives us hope for Maddie THE mother of missing Madeleine McCann said yesterday she had gained fresh hope from American Jaycee Dugard, who was found 18 years after being kidnapped. Kate McCann said she and her husband Gerry would not give up the search for Madeleine, who vanished in May 2007 during a family holiday on Portugals Algarve. I just think that its so vital for Madeleine that we dont give up on her, that we look for her, Mrs McCann told a news conference in Lisbon. Miss Dugard, 29, was found after being snatched in California when she was 11. Return: Kate McCann has gone back to Portugal Gang use helicopter to smash into cash depotAUDACIOUS robbers used a helicopter to break into a cash depot through the roof in a spectacular raid yesterday. The gang made off with several bags of money after being lowered on to the roof and smashing their way in through a window during the 5am raid in Vastberga, Stockholm. Stunned police were unable to give chase in their own helicopter because of fears over suspected explosives at the hangar. Witness Bjorn Lockstrom said he saw a helicopter hovering above the building for about 15 minutes. Two men hoisted themselves down, he said. I saw when they hoisted up money, too. There were reports of loud bangs from the building but it was unclear if any explosives had been used. Employees were taken to safety unharmed. An abandoned stolen helicopter was found later near a lake north of the Swedish capital. Aftermath: Police force their way into the depot Fast food meals have half the daily calories CHILDREN who eat at fast food chains can consume nearly half their recommended daily calories in one sitting, new research reveals. Youngsters who went to KFC ate two-thirds of their guideline maxi- mum daily salt intake in one meal, and 11- to 14-year-olds had half the recommended amount of sugar at McDonalds and Burger King. Consumer magazine Which? polled 1,003 youngsters aged eight to 15 in April about their eating habits at the three chain restaurants. For some time, healthier options have been available at the outlets, but By MARGARET DAVIS YOULL NOT TOP A PIZZA FOR SALT ONE cheese and tomato pizza can contain half the recommended daily amount of salt for an adult and 70 per cent of a womans intake of saturated fat. Consumer magazine Which? sent reviewers to examine margherita pizzas at six chain restaurants. They found Pizza Hut pizzas were the smallest on average but had the most total fat and 70 per cent of a womans maximum amount of saturated fat. The lowest in fat, Pizza Express (which operates as Milano in Ireland), also scored the highest for taste. index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html
