D Monday, September 21, 2009 METRO BY con dohertY Luas crash claims may run to millions of euro BOTH Dublin Bus and Veolia Trans- port Ireland, which operates the Luas, are bracing themselves for a number of compensation claims from passen- gers caught up in last Wednesdays collision in Dublin city centre. Theres speculation the full payout could run into millions of euro. Personal injury claims will be proc- essed through the Personal Injury As- sessment Board and the level of com- pensation for each applicant will be determined by the boards Book of Quantum, which calculates amounts to be paid out in compensation. Its believed that successful claims could go into the 100,000s, depend- ing on the extent of injuries. Speaking to the Irish Daily Star Sunday, personal injuries lawyer DJ Sinnott said that multiple claims will be lodged. It would be impossible to judge how much will be paid out but it is likely to be in the millions, he said. The accident happened when a Luas and a Santry-bound Number 16 bus collided on OConnell Street. At least 21 people were taken to hospital fol- lowing the crash.
