The three risk factors combined cut life expectancy by ten years among over-50s compared with people who do not smoke and have normal blood and cholesterol. People with other health worries, such as being overweight, could fare worse, shaving 15 years off their lives. The warning came as the result of a study on 19,000 men over 38 years. Girl had four children by her rapist fatherA MAN has been arrested on charges of raping his daughter for 30 years and fathering four children with her. The father, believed to be in his 60s, from Victoria state, Australia, is accused of raping his daughter since the 1970s when she was 11 years old, threatening her with violence against her mother. He has denied raping her. The case is due before the courts next month. Prosecutors will say DNA tests show he is the father of his daughters children. The case drew immediate comparisons with that of Josef Fritzl, an Austrian man who was convicted in March of holding his daughter captive for 24 years, repeatedly raping her and fathering seven children with her. TWITTER has been ranked as the most important social networking site for Irish businesses, ahead of Facebook and LinkedIn. The survey, carried out by mobile-phone network 3, found that 97 per cent of those polled believe it will become even more important for business. Some 69 per cent of Irish companies use Twitter to build an online community which helps them to develop a greater knowledge of their customers and potential customers and also gives them a platform to promote company news. Nearly half of companies (46.2 per cent) surveyed said they updated their account more than once a day, but an eager 13 per cent said they updated Twitter hourly. In terms of managing the Twitter account, manag- ing directors accounted for 31 per cent of updates, while marketing staff were responsible for 14 per cent of new posts. IT personnel provided 11 per cent new information. The survey found 55 per cent of companies be- lieve competitors make up some of their follow- ers. Five per cent of companies said that an active Twitter presence had delivered more than 5,000 to the company. David Riley, Head of Communications at 3, said that the growth of Twitter over the past year has been astounding. He said: We believe that we are only scratching the surface at developing a full understanding of the benefits and uses of Twitter for both consumers and businesses. The survey of 65 businesses who use Twitter was carried out in August.
