D Thursday, September 17, 2009 METRO THIS stunning photograph shows a thirsty bat having a drink at its favourite waterhole. The image was captured by wildlife pho- tographer Kim Taylor after months of pains- taking work. After noticing the bats flying close to his garden pond at night he began wondering how he could catch the creatures on film. Travelling at 30kmh and with wing beats not visible to the human eye, the animals are notoriously difficult to photograph. Ingeniously, the 76-year-old rigged ropes across the pond to channel the bats to drink from a certain point. Then he used special sensors to get the perfect shots. In this case, the subject is believed to be a brown long-eared bat which made its home in his garden, in Surrey, England. Mr Taylor said: I think not one in a mil- lion people has seen this happen but it hap- pens every night during the summer months all over the country. Heather McFarlane, from the Bat Conser- vation Trust, said: Our experts have never seen anything like these shots before. By Jo Steele Nice nurses, shame the foods awful IT IS enough to make you sick: A hospital patient is so disgusted with the food that he is posting pictures of his meals on the internet and challenging readers to guess what the dubious dishes are. The 47-year-old, who goes under the name Traction Man, said meals at his local hospital tasted like wallpaper paste made with milk. And he has had plenty of time to sample the various culinary delights, having been stuck at the hospital in south-west England since February with a rare bone infection. Some of the responses to my postings have been hilarious. People cannot guess what some of the meals are, he wrote on his blog. The entre tends to be uniform beige. Most of the vegetables need to go in a dryer before you get to eat them they are that wet. The jam roly-poly takes the cake. It certainly tastes like its been rolled right across the kitchen floor. However, he did point out that while the standards and quality of food leave much to be desired, the nurses and medical care in the hospital have so far been outstanding. Time for a quick drink before I fly... index.html2.html3.html4.html5.html6.html7.html8.html9.html10.html11.html12.html13.html14.html15.html16.html17.html18.html19.html20.html21.html22.html23.html24.html25.html26.html27.html
