Better side lost in Ashes, says Warne cricket: Australias domination of england in the one-day series shows the wrong team won the Ashes, former spin bowler Shane Warne said yesterday. the Australians have rebounded spectacularly from their 2-1 Ashes defeat by winning the first five of their seven one-dayers. its great to see [Australia] playing well, Warne said. they were hurting after the Ashes you dont mind being beaten in any sport if a side outplays you. it was hard to lose to england, who i didnt think was a better side. Olazabals a late entry in Austria GOLF: Jose Maria Olazabal has been given a late invitation into the Austrian Open in Vienna. The event was originally due to be played in June just before the US Open, but after the cancellation of the British Masters it went to a later date and will now start today. With a prize fund of 1million, it remains one of the smaller stops on the European Tour and offers only a one-year exemption for the winner, so the addition of Olazabal to the line-up is a welcome boost. Favourite for the title is Soren Hansen, the Ryder Cup Dane who was joint third in the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne last weekend. Blues call Roberts rUGBY: British and irish Lions star Jamie roberts will make his first start of the season when cardiff Blues visit Magners League opponents connacht tomorrow. Meanwhile, connacht have named a 24-man squad, with props Brett Wilkinson and robbie Morris, who missed the trip to edinburgh because of injury, remaining doubtful for this encounter. invitation: Olazabal SPORTDigest DaviD Haye and Ricky Hatton have paid tribute to Darren Sutherland following the irishmans tragic death this week. Dubliner Sutherland was found hanged on Monday by his promoter Frank Maloney, who is now being treated in hospital following a heart attack. The 27-year-old had turned professional last year after winning Olympic bronze in the middleweight division in Beijing. Having made an unbeaten start to his career as a professional, Sutherland had already attracted plenty of admirers due to his aggressive and exciting fighting style. World heavyweight title challenger Haye, who takes on Nikolay valuev next month, said: i was a friend of Darrens and i was as shocked as anybody. The guy had the world at his feet, he really did. He had the whole of ireland behind him. its crazy. i talked to him a couple of days before it happened and he seemed okay. When i heard i thought it was some sort of sick hoax. Former two-weight world champion Hatton, who has no plans for a comeback to the ring at present following his defeat by Manny Pacquiao in May, said: its absolutely tragic. i was following Darrens career with great interest. i think out of all the Olympic guys he was one of the best. all of the Olympic boys have looked sensational but he had a little bit of class, he was very exciting and stood out. He had a very good professional style. its tragic and a sad, sad loss for boxing and, more importantly a sad loss for his family and friends. The presentation of the cup after Sundays football final is a headache for Gaa officials, who want to avoid another pitch invasion at all costs. But all OSullivan is concerned about is emulating all-ireland win- ning skippers like Seamus Moynihan and Pid S. He says he would have no problem lifting Sam aloft anywhere the Gaa want as long as he gets to do it. i dont care where they give the tro- phy to me once they give it to me, said OSullivan. it doesnt bother me in the slightest where its given out. if they give it out in the car park around the back then fine, i just want to get my hands on it. Corner-forward OSullivan looks set to start his third game in a row at Croke Park after lining out against Dublin and Meath. Thats progress in itself for a player who hated his old impact sub label. On this Kerry panel, that term may never be behind me because the com- petition for places is so competitive, Darran needs no marks for presentation added OSullivan. But after the last couple of games id certainly be hop- ing to keep my place for the final. Privately, OSullivan will be happy he is even in with a shout of becom- ing an all-ireland-winning captain. Only for a missed penalty by Sligos David Kelly in the qualifiers, the Kingdom could easily have crashed out in mid-July. Diarmuid Murphys penalty save for us in the Sligo game was maybe the key moment of our season, said OSullivan. The rest is history. Theres a lot of perceptions about this Cork team that we have no control over, said centre-forward ONeill. But theres certainly no mental block there regarding Kerry. if youre going to have a mental block then you might as well not turn up. We can only deal with the things we can control and i can honestly say the attitude is very good at the moment. ONeill admitted how important it is for this Cork team to cap their emergence as a major force with an all-ireland title. id love to win one, it would be a very important thing in my life and the Cork players lives to win one, he added. The renault boss, along with chief engineer Pat symonds, quit yesterday after the French team announced it would not dispute allegations it had fixed the result of last septembers singapore Grand Prix. renault, accused of ordering driver Nelson Piquet Jr to crash to help team-mate Fernando alonso win, will learn their fate at an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor sport Council (WMsC) on Monday. ecclestone has forged a strong bond with Briatore since the flamboyant italian first stepped into F1 in 1988, and the sports rights holder expressed concern for a man whose reputation is now in tatters. i feel sorry for him actually, he said. Obviously, im surprised at what has happened, and im surprised theyve decided to walk away. The fact Briatore and symonds are no longer with renault will almost certainly be taken into account when the WMsC decide what sanctions to impose on the team. ecclestone was unable to offer any insight due to his role as a member of the WMsC. ive no idea what will happen, he said. Well have to wait and see. i dont want to make any comments about the World Council. The evidence against Briatore and symonds appeared damning in the wake of Piquet providing motor sports governing body, the Fia, with details of what transpired in singapore. The 24- year-old claimed that in a meeting with Briatore and symonds he was told to crash his car, and telemetry data showed the driver accelerating into the crash, rather than braking. it is understood the Fia offered symonds immunity, although it would now appear he declined, opting instead to quit with Briatore. although the Fia have it within their power to exclude renault from the championship, a penalty of that severity is not expected.
